I staid 1 night from April 14th to April 15th 2006 at the Hostellerie Abbatiale near Saint Malo in Brittany, France. It was an awful stay, and I can only recommend travellers NOT TO GO THERE. You'd be better off choosing a "chambre d'hôtes" - French for B&B - rather than going there.
To start with, I asked for a double bed when I booked the room, and we ended up with twin beds. When I complained, I got the answer that the hotel was fully booked... by Italian tourists who apparently had lots of issues too, according to discussions I heard. The room smelt quite bad, due to humidity I presume, as there were several obvious signs of humidity everywhere. Moreover, the heater was far too small to heat the room, so we ended up trying to sleep under 2 sets of blankets each. The cold was also an issue in the main restaurant, where we could not sit for the whole diner as it was too far too cold. In the room was the bathroom. Pretty large, but with no heater whatsoever, so it was freezing cold in the morning when we woke up. Here was almost no furniture in the bathroom, so we had to take the table of the room to put our toilet bag on. The shower had no tub, so when we tried to shower, the entire floor was wet, which included the floor of the toilets as the toilet seat was in the bathroom. I wrote “tried to shower”, as we could never actually take a shower: the hot water was far insufficient to enable a normal human being to wash. If taking a cold shower might be nice in Hawaii, it is not even an option in April in Britanny when it’s about 10° Celcius (50°F) in the bathroom.
When I complained again, at check out, I did not even get a “we’re sorry” from the management.
