“Great view on one side of the hotel but poor rooms”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 August 2009

We stayed 2 nights in early August 2009. The first room we were offered had 2 single beds (we had asked for a double) but a view of the Castle at Koeningsbourg. We looked at other rooms but they were smaller and with no view. The bathroom was primitive with no shower just a handle that sprayed water all over. The bed linen was clean but ancient and the decor was, for a hotel at this price and supposedly three stars, dismal. We paid 100 Euros a night; there were many hotels in the vicinity offering rooms for closer to 50 Euros and I feel sure they would have offered a similar room quality though not the view

“Great Alsace location”

The hotel is actually called "Hostellerie Munsch" and their splendid but costly restaurant is "Aux Ducs de Lorraine".
It is ideally placed for exploring the lovely Alsace villages. We stayed for a week in a standard room which had a balcony and a splendid view of the castle-topped mountainside. The room was spacious and comfortable. The bathroom could do with updating and I found the hand-held shower irritating. Apparently almost all the rooms have baths rather than showers. We paid 75 euros a night for the room and another 11.50 euros each for the excellent breakfast.
We found it wise to keep the windows closed at night because although the village church is quite some distance away, the bells could still be heard. And they are rung every morning at six o'clock to maintain the tradition of rousing the workers!

  • Liked — Comfort and a nice atmosphere
  • Disliked — The bells!

“business for him pleasure for me”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 May 2008

This hotel is part of the Relais du silence ligne of hotels, they are known for their quiet and out the the way locations, when we travel in France that is the way we choose our hotels.
The Ducs de Lorraine hotel is in Alsace Lorraine. We landed in Frankfurt and drove there.
The hotel is easy to find, the room was quite nice by french standard, large room, large bathroom, we had room 11 ,we had a big covered deck with gorgeous views of the valley and hills. we had the demi pension that includes dinner and breakfast.
The dinner was very good, local food and the wine was from the hotel own vineyard, great! Breakfast was also very good, the personnel at the hotel more then pleasant and when we left we receive a bottle of their own wine.
We will for sure return there whenever possible, the village is very pretty and there is a castle near by you can visit, perfect location.

We stayed in this hotel on a family visit for 4 nights. 2 large rooms, friendly staff and excellent regional food. Well placed to explore the area, Colmar short drive and Europapark across the border into Germany was less than 1 hour drive. Chateau Koenisburg worth visiting.

“Perfect in every way.”

We stayed here for 5 days while enjoying the wine route and beautiful countryside. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. We were even lent a road map during our stay. To save money we had a room on the back side of the hotel so we didn't have the wonderful view of the mountains and castle but our room was lovely and plenty big enough. We even had our own small balcony to sit on. Everything was very clean, the maid service was fast and efficient, beds were comfortable and I enjoyed the large soaking tub. Our breakfast was much more than I had expected and was delicious. Fresh croissants, cereals, meats and cheeses, bread, etc. We ate dinner in the hotel resturant one night and it was very good also but maybe a bit over priced. We enjoyed a little local place, Au Rouge de St. Hippolyte in the village more. We would recommend this hotel, this small village, and the Alsace region for anyone who enjoys good wine and is looking for a quiet, low key vacation.
