“An oasis of tranquility and excellence”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 April 2009

Inn at Coyote Mountain counts among the the top country inns in Costa Rica. We found it on our 4th trip to the country. It may not be for everyone--with its bumpy road entrance--but once you arrive it's soooo beautiful! Everybody there was friendly and helpful. Our room had a wonderful king bed handmade from local wood, and a gigantic bathroom finished in glass tiles. On the property it's very tranquil--you can hike or just relax and enjoy the amazing views. We used it twice--on our way in and out of San Jose. It's very convenient for this, taking a little more than an hour to get to the airport.

“Not what I expected”

My husband and I were in Costa Rica for 3 months. For Valentines Day I wanted a remote, romantic inn to stay at.Coyote Mtn.Inn sounded amazing, so I splurged on the Observatory Room. The view was amazing. That was it.Like other reviews, the room was dirty,I dont think it was cleaned in ages. The tub would have been great, but it too looked dirty. The towels were bare, the sheets very cheap quality.I woke up the first morning to a tarantula on my bed, which really freaked me out.The food the first night was good. The 2nd night-Valentines Day, it was inedible. The next day I was sick. This place could be great,if they spruced it up,got a good housekeeper and cook.ALso for the price, splurge on high quality sheets to match the prices.Paul is really nice, and talking to him about music and New York made the trip worthwhile. But I dont go to Hotels for that,I go for good food and nice rooms. Please clean up your act!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

“I'll Never Forget This Amazing Experience”

Where to begin? We arrived early and were welcomed with open arms. Our room was ready and clean, then we ordered a bottle of wine and sat on the balcony looking out over the pacific coast for a few hours. We watched the sunset from the hot tub, then enjoyed a four-course gourmet dinner- and that was just the first day! We spent a lot of time in the courtyard garden, where we drank Costa Rican coffee, dipped our feet in the mountain spring fed fountain and ate oranges right off the tree. One of the days Marlon took us up the mountain on their nicely groomed hiking trails and gave us a tour of their mountain-side gardens and greenhouse full of orchids. We saw birds, ate marvelous food, drank wine and totally relaxed. I would have loved to turn our four days there into a full week, and will not hesitate to return as soon as I am able.
The other reviews that document a poor experience come to me as a shock. I guess some people are just not as ready for adventure (admittedly the drive in is an adventure!) or are accustomed to staying in the Ritz Carlton. After leaving the Inn, we went to Puntarenas to stay at the Doubletree, and that was a bland dissapointment. If you are looking for a REAL taste of Costa Rican life, the Inn at Coyote Mountain is your spot.

“A real disappointment”

I went to Inn at Coyote Mountain expecting a beautiful hotel with extraordinary food and breathtaking views. Instead I got a dirty room, mediocre food and so many dogs barking that it was difficult to feel peaceful when I looked out the window. The hotel certainly could be all they suggest that it will be when you go to their website, but it would take an enormously more refined staff.

Don't expect anything more than Olive Garden quality food, dirty towels and windows/rooms that look like they haven't been cleaned in over a year. Yummy!! Other frustrations were uniformed staff, the front gate was locked when we arrived. The staff/owners seem to think that anyone who complains about their service is just a plebian who is completely unfamiliar with high class traveling, which is entirely untrue. Truthfully the owners have no idea how to run a successful hotel. They know how to talk a big a game and entice some via the internet but have absolutely no idea how to deliver.

“Great Value, Great Service, 5 stars”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 February 2009

Reservations went very smoothly and the place is actually much nicer than it appears on the web site. The view from the observatory room was excellent - unparalleled. The architecture of the hotel was also beyond compare. Paul was just wonderful and made us feel comfortable right away...we felt more like guests than customers. I'm telling all my friends about it and hope one day to return.
