“One of the great country inns, with one of the great restaurants”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 June 2010

Beautiful location, buildings and grounds; world-class, friendly service; large, comfortable, elegant and well-appointed rooms. The restaurant alone is worth a trip.

Unless you're exceptionally well-heeled Falsled Kro is one of those once-in-a-blue-moon indulgences. That said, it still represents value for money, as the experience of staying there (and eating in the restaurant) approaches perfection. I would not hesitate to return, or to recommend it to my closest friends.

“A NOT-TO-BE-MISSED experience - if your pocketbook can handle it!”

A simple "Amen" to all the previous reviews. It's a lovely historic inn in a beautiful setting with more service and comforts than you could hope for . . . except for internet in the rooms, but you can sit in the lounge or reception area to get online. Close to Faaborg and Svendborg for catching a ferry to Aeros.
If you have a room reservation, they automatically book a dinner reservation for you. Don't think it is included in the price of your reservation. Check the prices on the menu before you accept the dinner booking. It is very good and very pricey. You have to have an eclectic taste in food to enjoy the samplings. If you choose the 9 or six course meals, there is a cheese course and you will select from a large sampling of various cheeses. Apparently Danish or European gourmets choose their cheese as they would select a wine. Be prepared to know if you prefer sheep, goat, or cow cheese - and what type from which region of what country. And which accompaniment you prefer with your cheese selection: honey covered hazelnuts, jellied apple juice, and various fruit compotes, salsas and sauces. As an American I had, plainly, never given that much detailed thought to my cheese. When I expressed indecision about my preferences, our waiter said, "Madam . . . I cannot possibly know what you like." I am glad he was the only condescending Dane I encountered on our entire trip.
Again, breakfast is NOT included in the price of the room like it is for most hotels and inns. It is good quality food but served in tea-room-like miniature portions at large-scale prices. They do not accept credit or ATM cards (at least non-Danish cards) and so be prepared to pay with cash.
The accommodations are lovely, We stayed in #22 and #16. The large rooms are larger than they look online. #16 had a complete living room with a full dining table, seating area, and fireplace. A separate bedroom and an additional room with a table and chairs leading out to the patio with an additional table and chairs. All that before you get to the bathroom. It was really too big for just 2 of us.
#22 was the perfect size with a poster bed, seating area, and separate bath.
It was a couple of cold, drizzly spring days while we were at Falsled Kro and still, everything was warm and inviting and wonderful. I would stay here again anytime I get the chance and enjoy it for all it's charm - but have my eyes wide-open as to how much everything costs.

“a unique experience - lovely hotel, great food, great service - a really relaxing place.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 July 2009

Not easy to find , although when you get close the hotel is right on the road and very obvious.
An interesting place with a variety of cnverted buildings meaning that all the rooms and suites are different and interesting.
Room 1 is the best we saw - a conservatory sitting area for summer and an inside sitting room with open fire. Good beds with the standard (Danish) single duvets on the double beds. fresh cherries in the rooms. Room bar but no fridge.
Lovely gardens including the restaurant's kitchen gardens all open for a wander. Hotel smokes its own salmon (from scotland) and staff were happy to demonstrate the process.
Big bathroom with deep baths with shower over. Nice dressing gowns and slippers.
Very good restaurant and excellent if expensive tasting menu.
Breakfast on the sunny patio - bliss.
Close to Faaborg for shops and interest.

“Outstanding in every respect”

We spent a few days at the Falsled Kro after the Nimb in Copenhagen (separately reviewed).

The drive from Copenhagen is easy and pleasant with the highpoint being the 7km Great Belt Bridge which connects Funen and Zealand and took around 2 hours.

The Inn is a collection of buildings divided by a not terribly busy road ie a car every 5 minutes at best. We stayed in the original building with a small but pleasant walled garden offering a high level of privacy. The room was in "rustic" style with a magnificent fireplace and aged chintz furnishings. The bathroom was a riot of blues and yellows, as if entering a sunburst and with Miller Harris toiletries. All in all, extremely well done in an understated and homely way. Small plates of the world's juiciest and sweet strawberries and white peaches were left daily to be enjoyed in the garden in the late afternoon. Doesn't get much better than that.

The bar is extremely nicely done, with a large open fire and comfortable seating areas in a range of styles from squashy sofas to austure high back wooden chairs. A good range of drinks and Champagnes on offer served with a mouthwatering array of canapes, my favourite being the quails' eggs, hard boiled and served on a bed of straw with a delicious mayonnaise.

The restaurant is excellent and the quality of food, preparation and presentation was to an exemplary level. "Wine pairing" worked very well and the waiting staff knew all of the wines, providing a good level of description. Dinner is served either in the main building or in the conservatory extension which has views down to the sea and on a June evening, magical with the long shadows and bright skies lasting all through to the end of the meal. Then what better way to finish than to stroll down to the sea and come back and sit by the outdoor fireplace as bats swoop around the darkening sky.

Breakfast was the best I have ever had. Fresh strawberry juice, excellent yoghurt with local honey, pancakes with a blueberry compote, hams, salamis and cheese and then three fried quails eggs with bacon and sausage. I should add that these are all in small portions, so not as greedy or excessive as might appear.

Staff were all very friendly and helpful, proferring advice on where to go and what to say. They take real pride in the hotel and its restaurant and it shows.

The sea in June is "refreshing" but gin clear and a pleasant swim is sure to be had and it is very shallow, you need to be 50m out before it is at tip toe depth (assuming you are over 2m tall).

We loved it all, it is a very special place and you don't need all the spa nonsense to find an easily accessible place where the waves of relaxation embrace you fully and quickly. Magical.

“perfection at a price”

Totally charming country inn with beautifully decorated rooms, lavender-line paths, a helpful staff, and a spectacular restaurant with spectacular prices.
This is a great place to stay when day-tripping to Aero, as the ferry leaves from nearby Faaborg. You can walk to the harbor from the inn, and some rooms have rose-filled patios. A plate of strawberries was a great welcome, as was the bag of apples and water bottles upon departure. Stop at Egeskov castle on the way for a memorable country splurge.
