The 2 night we stayed at the HIE were some of the worst sleeps I had on our Alaska trip. Someone else booked our rooms and they didn't know about my "top floor only" rule. We had a nice room on the second floor but I could hear every thump of whomever was walking above us. The first night it lasted until about midnight and when I asked the front desk , the next day, if those people would be there the second night said no, but it was worse and we had to complain. There must have been kids jumping off the beds because at 9 pm my husband finally phoned the front desk. Mercifully, the "elephants" above did stop after that. Wonder what this hotel was constructed of? Also the cooling/heating system didn't have a continuous fan to offer white noise. So it would stop and start during the night which I found a bit disruptive.

Breakfast was the usual affair at a HIE and the location along the waterfront was just great! A sea otter was swimming within metres of the hotel. Several good restaurants within a short walking distance nearby too.

this is an excellant location especially if you are taking the train down or are taking one of the bay cruises. Rooms were clean and very comfortable. Staff helpful. Walking distance to many restaurants. The other big resort, I think it's called the Seward Princess Lodge looks nice but it is outside of town. computer with internet access available.

This was a very nice new clean hotel with beautiful harbor views and a great location. We ended up here by an act of God....flash floods, road wash outs and closures and no way to get to our reserved lodging. The staff at the Holiday Inn found great rooms for us and even gave us a discount price. I would definately stary here again.

This hotel is in an excellent location, right at the small boat harbor. We stayed in a harbor view room w/a balcony. It was well worth the price! Spectacular/picturesque views of the harbor and snow-capped mountains. The room had surprisingly high ceilings, which added to the spacious feeling. Modern decor and bathroom. Fridge and microwave. Excellent AC. These are clearly remodeled rooms, as the building is older. Free breakfast was a mad house most mornings - it was as if the guests had never seen food! Yes, there is limited parking, but we never had an issue getting a spot. Only complaint is that we could hear our noisy upstairs neighbors stomping around, so request a room on the third (top) floor, if possible.

If you go to Seward, be sure to take the 6-hr (or longer) Kenai Fjords boat tour - excellent! We saw humpbacks breaching in the water (first of the season), stellar sea lions, sea otters, puffins, a black bear, and a beautiful calving glacier. Also, highly recommend the behind-the-scenes tours at the Alaska Sea Life Center. We did both the puffin and marine mammal encounters and got to hand feed seals and puffins! Exit Glacier was also nice, but the mosquitoes were awful. They went away once you hiked above the treeline, though (right near the glacier). We also did a dog sled tour - was not a fan (didn't like the conditions that the dogs were living in).

Enjoy your time in Seward! One of the best towns in Alaska!
