“Best Place in Seward”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 October 2011

This is the only place I'll stay in Seward. The rooms and facilities are excellent and the staff very friendly and helpful. Great views and access to the beach and local shops. This is not a stuffy cold hotel! It was very nice to have a warm and roomy dining lounge area for meals with views of Resurrection Bay and Mts. There was a large kitchen with with good cookware so easy to cook up the fresh fish of the day. Loved the free internet. The breakfasts were amazing with sourdough pancakes, bacon, eggs, juice, and fantastic fresh homemade bread. The price was very reasonable and a great value for the roomy facilities. This place was like a home away from home where we could relax and enjoy Seward.

“Fun place to stay in Seward,AK”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 September 2011

My husband and I stayed at A Swan Nest Inn for 3 nights in August 2011. We had a cute quaint room overlooking Resurrection Bay, decorated with unique timber furniture and local artwork. The bedroom and bath were spotlessly clean, but very small which might be a problem for large people. We thought it was fun with its wall ladder leading to a loft with two additional beds. The building is historic - one of the few that survived the 1964 earthquake. The location is great - easy walking distance to shops, restaurants, the Sea Life Center and picnic areas along the bay in the little town of Seward.

Heather is the manager and she is wonderful. She gives her all to make sure that guests are well taken care of. She arranged a boat tour for us on our first day and took great pains to relay various messages from our daughters (we were expecting our first grandchild). She also cooks a wonderful breakfast. Her specialty is banana bread along with other continental breakfast items, but she will also whip up some eggs, bacon and pancakes if you prefer a full breakfast.

“Disappointing service”

I booked a room here for a night after reading the positive reviews. However, upon arrival, we were told that we had been "upgraded" to a bed and breakfast down the street owned by the same people. This turned out to be just a room in the owner's house, and did not include breakfast. I wouldn't recommend staying at a property with these owners.

“"A walker's delight"”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 September 2011

If you are looking for an Alaskan experience, on the second floor of a historical building, that has a remarkable view of Ressurection Bay from the large cherrie dining room with a wood stove, then this is a great place to spend a night, a week or a month (as we did) of your holiday.
The artistic home made furniture and a loft in our room ,which allows sleeping accomodations for extra guests, added to the ambiance of this establishment.
Wi-fi connection was excellent from the dining area, living/game room or the privacy of your own room.
Knowledge of the area shared by the owner, Tom, and his manager, Heather was most helpful and being within walking distance of town and the harbor is a walker's delight.

“Unique”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 August 2011

A mixed bag - the homemade breakfast with freshly baked pastries was a plus, as was the beautifully carved furniture in the rooms, both made by the owner, a friendly and knowledgeable host. On the other hand, the room was smaller than any Manhattan hotel room I'd ever been in, and it wasn't cheap. Lugging luggage up a long outside staircase was difficult - no rooms on the first floor.
