My family of four stayed here before and after an overnight trip into Kenai Fjords National Park. Although this property has no pool, jacuzzi, or fitness center, and the computers in the lobby were non functional for both of our stays, my eleven year old son declared this the nicest hotel we stayed in during our ten days in Alaska. Like everywhere else we stayed in Alaska, I thought the Windsong Lodge was ridiculously overpriced. It isn't really on the water- there is a river across the street which is scenic, but not scenic like the ocean, and because the hotel is outside of town by a couple of miles, there really isn't anything to walk to. A shuttle will take you downtown but it helps to have a car if you want to stay here. The lobby is elegant in a corporate way, the gift shop has limited hours, but was wonderful for browsing, with many locally-made souvenirs, and the restaurant was absolutely first rate. We ate dinner there three times- just couldn't bring ourselves to try anywhere else, and the food and service were excellent each time. The grounds have some nice walking paths, but this is not really a fancy property. Our second visit we upgraded to a junior suite, and I have to say it was the best $30 I have spent in some time. The standard balcony room is your standard motel room- two beds, small bathroom, with a tiny balcony overlooking the woods. The junior suite was a third larger than the standard room, with a kitchen, dining area, and very nice bathroom with jetted tub. While there was no "balcony" it had an exterior seating area, outside the front door, that was completely private- far superior to the balcony. If I were returning to Seward I would stay downtown and come to this hotel for dinner, but this is not a bad option if you want peace and quiet.
