“Spotlessly Clean and extremely comfortable”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 September 2010

This B&B worked perfectly for us. Its location close to downtown and the small boat harbor made it convenient for a very early boat charter. It has its own private entrance as well. Maureen had the kitchen well stocked with breakfast items perfect for a quick get away in the AM, including some delicious home made bars. The fully supplied kitchen was perfect to make our own meals after returning tired from a long day on the water. Beware the bedrooms are downstairs and bathroom/ living room/ kitchen area is upstairs, which is difficult for aging joints.

“Clean, Quiet Room, Friendly Hosts”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 September 2009

Maureen and Steve went out of their way to accomodate us. Maureen met us at the house for an early check in. When the taxi did not show up to take us to the ship, Steve (home on his lunch) threw our luggage in his truck and took us.

The room is extremely clean and cozy -- like the family's ski chalet. It is split level, bed downstairs and bathroom upstairs. (Not handicap friendly.)

One note: The "breakfast" part of the B&B should be in small letters. As explained once you check in, breakfast is a small selection of bread and bagels, some fruit and yogurt. Since we don't eat much breakfast, it made no difference to us, but don't expect a home cooked meal.

That said, I would recommend the Brass Lantern for its cleanliness, quiet location and gracious hosts.

“Couldn't ask for anything more..”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 August 2009

This was by far the best place we stayed on our trip (including another highly-rated B&B in Seward). It is super clean, very spacious, and warmly decorated. Stocked with several kinds of coffee, tea and other drinks, cereals, oatmeal, etc, plus a basket of fresh fruit and freshly baked bread. The host was very helpful when we got there, and then left us alone. TV with cable and a ton of movies, games, books, and other stuff to do. There were two bedrooms, a living room, and a small kitchen, ALL TO YOURSELF!

As far as the location, this is in the downtown area of Seward, very close to a lot of the shops, restaurants, bars, the Sea Life Center, etc. Perfect if you are trying to have a good time in Seward, but be aware that if you are getting off the train and aren't very mobile or have a ton of luggage, you may want a cheap taxi ride to get there.

Anyway, I can't recommend it enough. In fact, I wish I could live there..

“It fit our needs perfectly and we would stay here again!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 August 2009

My mother, a friend, and I found the Brass Lantern to be perfect for our needs during our 2 night stay in Seward. The location in a mostly residential area was great in relation to the center of town. Our hostess was efficient with the business end of our stay and friendly. The lodging was clean, comfortable, and nicely decorated. We liked having the bedrooms on the first floor and the living and kitchen area on the 2nd floor where the balcony and a view were. We also appreciated the flexibility of having our healthy and delicious breakfast supplies in the kitchen for our stay. The freshly baked chocolate chip cookies were a big hit too. We will definitely stay here again if we ever return to Seward (and we'd like to).

“Very comfy B&B”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 August 2008

Great alternative to local hotels/motels. This may be one of the cleanest places I have ever stayed. Breakfast (including fresh baked cookie bars) was provided. We were in a completely private apartment so we did not feel like we were staying in someone's house. The kids could sleep late downstairs and we could drink our coffee...etc. up. Much bigger than a hotel room for the same price.

  • Liked — Clean and convenient to town
  • Disliked — check-in is late in the day
