“Great for family with kids (not teenagers)”

OK, here's a little review of "Neptun" hotel...
What was OK?
- room - comfortable, enough space, beds are OK, but a bit too soft mattresses 4/5
- bathroom - small, but nicely arranged 4/5
- TV - small (really small), few international channels, nothing special 2/5
- food - good, almost very good. Meat, fish, vegetables... 4/5
- entertainment - well, it could be better - I mean, loud music and some stretching inside pool area isn't really a great fun. 2/5 However, there's a plenty of joy for young children (2-6 years) outside of hotel resort (mechanical horses, trampoline, etc.) 4/5
- drinks (all inclusive) - OK, but nothing fancy 3/5
- nice natural surroundings - 5/5

What was not OK?
- noise, noise, noise...
-> you can hear weird noise from elevator every time it goes up or down...
-> you can hear noise from water pipes (when someone from other room takes a bath or flushes the toilette)
-> you can hear snoring from your neighbor
-> doors slam when you close them
-> Internet TOO expensive!
-> there are two elevators, but... they are so small!!! Besides, one of the elevators is not always in working condition. And... there are 8 floors in this hotel, cca. 100 rooms, so, when only 1 elevator is functional, that means that only 3-4 persons can go up/down at the time. Bad...

All in all, really a nice place for a vacation, but if you are sensitive to noise, skip it or prepare some ear plugs...

“Seriously dated, no-go for foodies, but nice pool.”

Stayed for a week on an all-inclusive basis at the Hotel Neptun in Tucepi in July 2010. The all-inclusive seemed a really good idea beforehand as it represents great value and makes life with kids really really easy. And then we had our first meal in the place... and of course regretted this decision as soon as. Honestly, without being overly fussy, the food just isn't great. Coffee especially is undrinkable, and even the kids shunned croissants and toast in the morning. Lunch and dinner needed to be chosen carefully as some of the buffet items were quite nice, while others were - well, not. On the upside, the hotel is nicely located on a lovely promenade and has a very well-sized pool with a little kids' pool ideal for up to five or six years age. The service wasn't overwhelmingly friendly, except for the kids entertainers who tried their very best to cope with a motley international (mainly Eastern European) crowd of youngsters. Rooms were ok but the entire hotel has a dated feel to it (which really didn't bother us too much for a sun holiday). Overall, after a week, we didn't regret to leave, but the kids enjoyed themselves. If I were to go back to the region, I'd stay in Makarska, which is a bigger but very nice resort town 3 kms up the road.

“most relaxing holiday ever”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 June 2010

we stayed end of may beginning of june. the first week was really quiet but it picked up the week after. the rooms are very basic, no air con in the annexe, but you can lock the slatted outside door so you get air flow. the maids are very good and the room, as was the hotel, is spotlessly clean. a bar started up the second week which had loud thumping music but this was turned off at half one every morning.
the staff are top class, very friendly and welcoming.
the food is good. breakfast is poor as its aimed at non brits but there is cereal and toast if you want it. there is also coffee, necafe which i drink and this is also at the pool bar which is a bonus.
lunch and dinner saw a very good selection of cooked meats, fish and vegatables. indeed the veg was the tastiest i have ever had. there are 4 types of pasta and loads of salad stuffs too. desserts are ok but there is always ice cream. all in all the food is very good.
as has been said in the 2 weeks there we had 3 school trips, each for 2 days. the kids were not naughty, just typical noisy kids who took over the pool. this isnt good enough. we shouldnt have this on our holidays and we complained.
the trip to dubrovnik was good but you must do the krka park trip. its supurb. the country is breathtakingly beautiful and the hotel sits behind gorgeous mountains and the sun. very picturesque. entertainment is ok, nothing special but nothing to noisy either. for you lot there i was the idiot who was dressed as shakira for the pop quiz!!!!
all in all we really enjoyed the holiday. croatis is a supurb value for money country and a place you must visit. we cannot recommend this country enough. the hotel is very good but with a little investment it could be great.

“Good hotel with good standard of food - more than its 3* rating”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 June 2010

We stayed for 2 weeks in May/June straddling the school half-term week. We are husband, wife, son age 14 and daughter age 12. Our booking was for a family room so on arrival we were pleasantly surprised that we had been allocated a two bedroom 'apartment'. Although reasonably basic the accommodation was good and quite spacious with a good bathroom and very comfortable beds. The blocks are rather ugly and dated from the outside but fine once you are in (we had been forewarned by a previous reviewer and were therefore prepared for this). The food was much better than we had expected and we made the most of our all-inclusive stay. There is a huge selection of hot meals and a very good salad bar at every meal. Deserts were not so good but there was always fruit available or ice cream. We agree with other reviewers who say the soft drinks are not too good but the gin and tonic went down a treat! All in all we would agree with others who say this is probably more 4* standard than 3*

The location is excellent with a good large pool and only just beyond is the pebbly beach and the sea. The photos do not do the hotel justice. The sea is wonderful and the mountains behind are very dramatic. We tended to prefer the sea to the pool area which could be fairly crowded.

We had hoped that our children would meet some friends on holiday but we were very surprised to find that we were the only English people in the hotel for the first 9 days. There was a very mixed clientele - mainly German familes, plus Czech, Russian, Polish and French. A crowd of Saga holiday makers arrived once the Germans disappeared at the end of the May half term week and the atmosphere in the hotel changed completely.

Entertainment centres around the hotel pool and was not particularly great other than for young children. The centre of Tucepi is about a 10-15 minute stroll along the promenade. The resort was fairly quiet when we arrived and clearly was only just getting ready for the season with new places opening up daily. I would imagine it is quite a lively place in July and August.

We booked hotel, flights and taxi independently. I would recommend Klobus Travel for the taxi (foudn them by chance on the web). The driver was waiting for us when we arrived at the airport and was very friendly and helpful on our journey. He was also there very promptly for our return booking. His English was very good and he told us a lot of interesting tourist information on both journeys to and from the airport. The cost was reasonable for the 1 1/2 hour journey.

There were a few negatives though these were only minor:
1. The internet connection is not very good and reception staff did not seem to be interested when there was a problem which wasted the time we had purchased - cost is 30 Kuna for 1 hour.
2. There was a huge crowd of school children (not sure what nationality) who arrived for 3 nights and teachers did not ccontrol them properly. They were running around the hotel and resort at well after 11pm at night and were very noisy. Also took over the pool completely in the afternoons. It was fortunate thatt heir stay was reasonably brief.

We would definitely recommend this hotel. We have had the most relaxing holiday ever and would like to return some day.
