“No toilet paper. Seriously?”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2012

We stayed in unit 2-303. To begin with the cons, this unit is advertised as having one king sized bed. However, the reality was that it has two twin beds pushed together. These twin beds are possibly the cheapest mattresses ever made covered by the cheapest possible sheets...which you could see through. Another difficulty was that it was very hard and at times impossible to get the water in the shower turned all the way off, so it often dripped away. While on the subject of the bathroom I should mention that there was no toilet paper which was awkward at best when you need to find some. The walls are very thin and you can hear most conversations, as well as foot travel even when you don't want to (like when you're in bed trying to go to sleep).

The pros include a beautiful location with a great view of the community courtyard, swimming pool, and sunsets. You are just far enough from the city center to have privacy, but only 1.6 miles from the center so that you can walk if you choose to. Another nice benefit is the free shared wifi...but you are on vacation in Hawaii, so try to limit yourself ;-) Last, but not least is a great local coffee shop in the parking lot called The Green Flash.

“Right on the ocean, VRBO rental”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 January 2012

We spent a week during the Christmas holidays at this 2 bdrm/2 bath condo and were overall pleased with it. We rented from the owner via http://www.vrbo.com/336199. A few pros and cons:
Pros: AMAZING ocean view - the lanai was directly on the ocean and you couldn't ask for a more spectacular view. The crashing sound of the waves lulled us to sleep in the living room (more on that in the cons); nice size and perfect configuration for our family of 4 with the 2nd bedroom having 2 twins for our kids; very useful to have a full kitchen, washer/dryer, free shared internet; (long) walking distance to the village of Kailua-Kona and centrally located as long as you have a car; plentiful free parking. Nice looking communal BBQ and eating area and pool/hot tub, which we didn't use. The price ($185/night+cleaning, tax) was very reasonable given the time of year. Pictures on the VRBO link are accurate.

Cons: the 2 bedrooms faced the parking lot and the neighbouring condo village. Despite a 10pm quiet time, most nights people were outside in their communal area enjoying themselves - they weren't particularly loud but we could hear every word (or musical note) while we were trying to sleep. The parking lot/exterior building lights shone brightly into the windows which didn't have any coverings other than frosted glass slats (hence why my husband and I ended up sleeping on the living room pullout). The hot water situation was very limited, especially when you have a teenager used to extravagantly long showers. As I've seen mentioned in various places, there were little tiny ants that would congregate on the kitchen counters - not too many but definitely present. This is more a general issue in the area than a specific issue with this unit - just be aware.

All in all, we were pleased with this choice, especially as it was near family we were visiting. Since the adults had the living room pullout option, we were able to sleep while enjoying the sound of the ocean.

Note that Sea Village is not on a beach - it's a fairly stiff descent to lava rock oceanside which could be dangerous. We saw a few people swimming off this area but I would NOT at all recommend it for safety reasons. There were times when huge waves would crash over the first retaining wall and hit the second one and it looked like there was a pretty strong current and undertow by the shoreline.

Room Tip: Unit 4213 had an unparalleled ocean front lanai although some noise issues in the bedrooms from the...

“Great ocean views”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 January 2012

The location of the Sea Village is perfect - right on the beach. Every room has a view of the ocean! There were a several of downsides to our stay. There was a bathtub in the unit, but the hot water heater has a capacity of only 20 gallons. We could never get enough hot water to bathe the kids. The maintenance man tried to make the water hot enough, but to no avail. Also, try to avoid getting a unit where the bedrooms face out onto the Alii Drive. There's a lot of traffic on that street, and it's noisy until late at night. We were in unit two. I think unit #1 has bedrooms away from the street. We were hoping for a king size bed in the master bedroom, but it was a queen. Appearently the resort doesn't have king size beds. The second bedroom was tiny, and has twin beds. Overall, we got a good value for our money.

Room Tip: Ask for bedrooms away from the street.
