“Corner Unit KMS #201 – Spectacular”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 January 2012

I did a lot of research for this first visit to the big island. Our criteria—ocean view and kitchen. KMS #201--Wow.

There are too many wonderful things to name here, but I will try. Email me if you want more:
Location – On Ali’i Drive, nice walk or short drive to the farmer’s market (nine luscious papayas for $2 USD). KMS is right next to Magic Sands beach so you can go for a morning swim, have breakfast; snorkel 30 feet from your lanai, have lunch; read and watch beach goers, then enjoy a homemade supper on the lanai while watching the sun set.
(Note about the beach: If you like wake boarding you will love Magic Sands. The condo property also has a dedicated outdoor shower to wash off any sand. Very handy and recommended.)

Kitchen – Granite counter tops, undermount sink, recessed lighting, new fridge and dishwasher, great stove. Highlights: a Keurig single-cup coffee maker, 10 litres of sealed bottles of water for condo users, finding rosemary/lavender BBQ rub in the cupboard.

Bathroom – Granite and tile. Glassed-in shower with a spa-pebbled floor. Lots of towels, laundry detergent, shampoo, etc.

Lanai/patio – Large enough for four yogi’s to stretch out. It currently holds two comfy chaise lounges, a patio set for four, and hidden around the corner, beach umbrellas, chairs, wake boards, coolers, etc. We enjoyed the unimpeded ocean view so much that going out to a restaurant with an ocean view was anti-climactic.

Needless to say, it was clean, comfortable and met our criteria. An understatement.
Note about the owners: They were very responsive throughout our correspondence. e.g. texting a quick reply from a dinner party.

What else can I say? All the work and effort put into this condo shows a sense of pride and good spirit.

Room Tip: Tip: Bring earplugs if you are not used to sounds of the surf.

“Great location but some issues with unit 302”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 December 2011

This is a terrific location with wonderful sounds of the waves crashing and a good beach (although small) right next door. I am rating it average based on the follow-thorough of management company / owner.

Pro's
- great location with ocean views/access
- Sunset is fabulous!!!!
- great sized lanai
- very comfortable tempurpedic bed (murphy bed so goes up to make more room)
- well equiped in kitchen for cooking etc...
- snorkel gear and one beach chair available
- nice stereo with ipod docking station
- movies available to watch on dvd (could not figure out how to use although)
- had shampoo/conditioner/lotion that was unexpected but nice touch
- computer access - but wifi not working so had to plug in - no big deal

Cons
- washer did not work (called but no one came to fix or called to respond why)???
- they only provide a "start-up" amount of toilet paper so if you stay more than a few days you need to buy your own (very inconvenient and geez ... how much could it cost to provide a few more rolls???)
- had to call 2x to get automatic dishwasher cleaner and finally had to go and get at office (they are to provide a small bottle but did not)
- there were small brown ants everywhere!!!! They call them water ants but they sure went for the food/ toothpaste/ lifesavers in my purse/ EVERYTHING! We cooked while on our trip so everything had to put in the refrigerator and you had to watch all the time when preparing ... they were relentless. I know this is Hawaii and bugs are here ... BUT ... they should prepare you and either fumigate or provide lots of ziplocks etc to store any opened food. They did provide some ants traps (I had to go get them) but I just made sure I was a cleaning fiend and bought zip-locks.
- when we got here ... we opened one of the drawers near the computer desk and a lot of termite dirt was there. (Ummmm ... not a good sign for the tropics). I called to inform them of said problem after I had a few flying termites land on my computer one evening. I left my number for the owner to call if any questions and just to check in ... no call (not very good customer service).
- no beach towels (had beach mats but they don't dry you). Had 4 bath towels for the entire 8 days ... would of worked but washer did not work.
- very poor lighting in kitchen (maybe because 3 lights out). At this point I did not even call to have fixed.
- no lounge chairs on lanai (all other units had them that I could see). They just had a high table with 4 chairs (not a huge deal but would have been nice).
- george forman grill was dirty and we had to clean before we used.

I know it sounds very picky but I was a bit dissappointed and would have appreciated someone telling me these things. If we come back again, we would stay in 301 because it is a corner unit and great view of the beach with all the surfers and privacy. This unit is very tastefully done and I am sure a lot of effort went into making it more of an upgrade. We paid almost $1000 for this week so it was not cheap for us so I guess I expected a bit more follow-through. We don't expect perfection and totally understand termites happen and the owner cannot control this and some of the other things but we did take the time to share with the mgmt. company and they said the owner lived here and likes to take care of his own issues but we never heard from him???? Oh well ... hope this helps ... Mahalo!!!!

Room Tip: ask if there has been fumigation recently and bring zip-locks for your food stored outside of the re...

“303 Magic Sands”

This is a fabulous condo unit with the beach next door. It iis well situated on the third floor with a great view of the ocean activity, dolphins, turtles, and colorful fish (the spinner dolphins put on a great display for an hour). Sunsets are, of course, dramatic and watching the swimmers in the surf is a hoot. The condo has been completely redone and the owners have done it in a classy style, the lighting, furnishings, kitchen, bath, bed, all of it was perfect. The owners are most helpful and accommodating. You can't go wrong renting this place.

“Beautiful Kona Magic Sands #303”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 November 2011

This location is perfect if you want to stay close to Kailua's touristy area but far enough away for it to be quiet.

Pros:
- Beautiful view of the water (I got to see dolphins playing one morning!)
- Great kitchen -- fully stocked with tools, pans, utensils, etc.
- Plenty of towels for showering, beach and kitchen.
- Good hair dryer and straightener!
- Washer and dryer with detergent and dryer sheets
- Snorkel gear!

Cons:
- No in unit wifi, we stole from someone else.
- Bed is VERY firm, too much for us.
- Bathroom is a little too open ... noise wise.

Overall, a fantastic place and we would come back again for sure!

“Unit 208 a disappointment”

The bedding was worn. I found some newer sheets in a closet which I put on the bed. The bed is hard and well worn. Some of the furniture have rips in them. At least the TV is new and the place is clean. If you want to see and hear ocean waves, this is the place, but don't expect more than bare-bones accommodations.
