“Excellent facility in a great location.”

Just back from 9 days staying in Unit 102. Unit is well furnished and equiped and quite comfortable. Atmosphere is relaxed and homey. Property is well kept and maintained with numerous bits of interesting architectural detail. Definitely no institutional/sterile feeling here. Easy walk to Kalahuu Bay State Park and wonderful snorkeling. Farmers markets within walking distance on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Bob, the property manager is a treasure. An engaging and attentive host without being over bearing. We will be back and will recommend it to friends and family.

“perfect condo for Kona”

We stayed at the Sea Spray for 10 days in December in unit 201. The condo was great and gave us a home away from home for our visit to the Big Island. Bob very kindly invited us to a Thanksgving Day dinner which we enjoyed greatly. His generosity was much appreciated. While the beaches are fabulous, the Big Island is really a place to explore. You need a car but the driving is easy and safe. Search out the many locations for Island's culinary holy grail, the fish taco.

“Not Comfortable AT All”

Advertised hot tub did not exist,. The grill out area and picnic table had roaches crawling it while we were eating. The roaches were found coming under the door of our room several times. Bobs response -" it is a jungle you have to expect it."The refrigerator could not keep our food cold enough for safety. After 2 days of cold showers we were told there was an electric backup for water heater-we weren't told. Not having air conditioning was a big inconvience. The "always present trade winds" did not happpen. If doors were kept open the traffic noise from below was too loud to hear tv. It was too hot to sleep. We had change to other lodging; as did other people staying there. Office promised an adjustment to our bill. Never happen! GO SOMEWHERE ELSE!!

Room Tip: Go somewhere else.

I agree with all of the positive comments. Bob (the owner) could not have been more helpful right from the off. Our condo was not air conditioned but that was not an issue at all - it has many fans and the breeze blows thru the apartment. We were a family of 5 and stayed at 201 and it was great. It's easy to get in and out of town with the shuttle if needed. There is a large shopping centre with good restaurants about a mile to the south. We were here for the iron man and it was a great location for that. Beaches within easy walking distance. There's a nice pool too but we didn't use it that often. Nice wifi too! if we come back to Kona we would make Seaspray our no.1 choice.

“Seaspray no ka 'oi (is the best)”

We've stayed here 8 times since 2004, twice with dive buddies, and this time with a daughter's family in another unit. Wouldn't stay anywhere else on the Big Island. Bob Johnson, the owner, takes great pride in maintaining the place including the grounds with many lovely plants. He has remodeled over the years, continuing to making it even nicer. Some of the earlier commenters reflect some unhappiness during some of these events; but the results are great! Come back and see! Bob lives there too, and always has helpful suggestions on things to do, or take care of amenities, like the pool and barbecue area. He's like family, and this time welcomed us "home." Once when a large group of divers were using several units, he moved us at the start to the third floor so none of the partying would be above us! The condos face the ocean, better views higher up. The land behind the condo is a jungle making for relative isolation, and great birds and an occasional wild pig to observe. We love to snorkel and Kahaluu Beach Park is a short walk across the street with great variety of fish equal to or better than anywhere on the Island, and it's shallow, but don't tread on the coral. This trip I identified 46 different fish on my first swim, 110-15 for the trip all over the Island, and another 30 diving. This trip we stayed in Unit #4 above the owner, corner overlooking both pool and ocean, unobstructed view across open heiau property. As part of a family reunion, we hosted lunch one day and everyone was comfortably accommodated. Also, saw the green flash twice from the heiau. This is a great place to stay and explore the island, and there are a variety of nice places to eat in the Kailua-Kona area. Obviously, we'll be back. Mahalo for all the fun times!!
