I find it exhilirating to stay at the Sea Spray. The Alii Drive marathon run segment of the Ford Iron Man World Championship turns just below the Sea Spray pool and lanai. That one day of the year, there are hundreds of world class runners on Alii Drive. The other 364 days of the year, many hundreds of walkers, runners, and cyclists crank out their miles on the smooth paved shoulders of Alii Drive. The Sea Spray and Kailua Town is a recreational paradise. If you like bright skies and temperatures between 68 and 85, this is great recreational destination.

For surfers and people who want to take up surfing, one of the most consistent wave breaks in Hawaii is about 200 meters away from the Sea Spray. Directly across the road are the archaeological ruins of the Kue-Manu heiau, a core feature of a Native Hawaiian surfing temple complex preserved by Hawaii County and protected by everyone who cherishes and respects it.

It is a 200 meter walk from the Sea Spray to Kahaluu Beach Park, one of the best snorkeling spots in Hawaii. This is a county park with world class lifeguards on duty all day, surf conditions permitting.

The Sea Spray is owned and operated by Bob Johnson who is a full-time resident on the property and concierge to the Big Island. The Sea Spray just completed installation of its own sewage treatment plant. Construction activities caused some inconveniences in December and January, but that is a thing of the past.

The freshwater pool and lanai area is a great place to start winding down a busy day. Prepare a supper on the gas grill. Sit back and relax with a camera, and watch the Alii Drive activity and surfers at sunset. Try to capture an image of the elusive green flash.

I am obviously a very big fan of the Sea Spray. And I haven't even mentioned my favorite activity: golf.

My wife and I found this Jewel by luck, and as luck would have it, it turned out to be the best place that we stayed at while in Hawaii, we had the opportunity to spend 6 mths in Hawaii & 6 wks of those 6 mths were at The "Seaspray", we actually stayed at the Reef which is part of the Seaspray condo complex next door. We contacted the owner, Bob, he met us on arrival, and showed us where to park. Bob showed us through the unit, we had a ground floor unit, it was very clean, well maintained and had everything we needed and then some, laundry room, all appliances in the kitchen, and plenty of closet and storage space, there was boogie boards, snorkel sets, everything you needed for your vacation.
We arrived mid Sept. through to the end of Oct. Bob and staff members where always there if you needed anything, I mentioned one day something about the coffee machine seemed to be not heating up as hot as I thought it should, well min. later I had a brand new one still in the box, now that's service. We were lucky enough to be at this location during the U.S. Thanksgiving, well what a surprise that was, we were invited to this great Thanksgiving Celebration at the pool area, there was a Live Band, Singing, Hula dancing, food, appetizers, refreshments, friends and family all getting together, sure made us feel special. We just didn't seem to miss home as much at that point. Thanks Bob.
What I also enjoyed was the location to the beach and one of the best snorkel spots to be found on the Island, Kahalu’u Beach, 50 yards away, and you were there in the ocean surfing, swimming, snorkelling, what an experience. There is also a Trolly that stops just a 2 min. walk away, which you can ride for a dollar, so you can leave your car and go into town or up to the Keauhou shopping center, nice and relaxing. We have already started talking about a return trip here, can hardly wait.

We stayed at the Kona Seaspray in unit #302 January 4th to the 11th. It was my girlfriend and our three kids 16, 14, and 11 y/o. Our flight arrived over an hour early which put us on the island just after 10 am. So we got our car and drove to the Seaspray knowing the check in was 2 P.M. I thought we would see if we could at least drop of our luggage and change until we were able to ccheck in. When I arrived, I had some trouble finding the manager Bob but he walked up to the condo with me and checked to make sure it had been cleaned and let us in early. It was nice to get out of our pants and into some shorts. The room was nice and the view was great. You just have to see past the power lines. It's a short walk to Kahalu'u beach and was a great place to teach the kids how to snorkel.
Now comes the not so good part. My girlfreind and I slept on the Queen bed in master bedroom. The two girls slept on the twin beds in the other room and the 16 y/o on the hide-a-bed in the living room. I say sleep, but that is misleading. The queen bed was like trying to sleep on a pool table. It was nothing short of miserable. After two nights of trying to sleep, our backs ached and our shoulders were very sore and stiff. We thought we would try the hide-a-bed and give the queen bed to the 16 y/o. The hide-a-bed was like sleeping on a roller coaster. There was also a bunch of street noise. Lots of 4 wheel drives and Harley's going by.
Our vacation with the kids was great, but the lack of sleep for us all did take it's toll. We were exhausted by the end of the week and couldn't wait to sleep in our own beds. We hated to leave Hawaii though so I would recommend at least staying in a differant condo at this location and hope the beds are better than we had. A friend of mine recommended this place to us, but she had stayed in unit #4 and was happy with it.

The view is nice, the space is fine, but the owner/manager offered no discount or percs for the unexpected noise and dirt from the heavy equipment that he hired to dig a new septic system. It started at 8:15 the morning after our arrival, and did not stop during the daytime for our entire week of vacation.
