The Hoboken, NJ Ski club (about 48 people mostly 25-35 yrs old) stayed at the Moosekreuz from Jan 21-Jan 29. We were on a package with room, breakfast and dinner nightly.
GOOD THINGS: Friendly staff, great food for dinner convenient to the Mooserwirt (fantastic Apres Ski!), bar prices were reasonable(Wheat beer 4.5 Euro and Gluwine about the same), the bus stop was close and the hotel shuttle ran frequently. While the choices for dinner were limited to a meat or fish entre each night, the salad bar was great, The cheese selections varied each night and I really enjoyed them. The soup was good, bread was fantastic and the entre was always excellent, well presented and well prepared. The dining staff was great and Antonio (bartender) was constantly walking around the dining room offering you your favorite drink. After one night he knew what most people preferred!
The mediocre: rooms were typical of European hotels, not fancy but very functional. The equipment room was on the ground floor and inside but some of our group were concerned because the room was not locked. No one had any equipment missing at the end...so..not a big deal. The sound proofing was not good. When a group came back from an apres ski party at 2 am you knew it.. Hotel was supposed to be slope side.... not really! It was only a few minutes by shuttle but a 7-8 min walk to one run where you could ski down to the cable car.
The BAD: Some of our group thought the hotel was going to be fancier and hot water was a problem about 5-6 pm when everyone got back from skiing and wanted to shower before dinner. At any other time, there was no problem. Perhaps our group got it wrong because we thought it was a ski out hotel. It is not!
Summary:
I thought the place was a bargain! True, we were a big group but when you check the price of food at various restaurants around town, I was very pleased with both the quality and the price .
