THE GOOD: The best thing about the hotel is the free dinner included in your stay. The food is delicious, beautifully prepared and presented. I've worked for 3 great chefs and am a bit of a foodie and I was honestly impressed by the dining experience because it was much more upscale than I was expecting. The Italian waitstaff is wonderful, we loved them, and they were the friendliest people we encountered during our entire stay. I hope the owners appreciate the kitchen team, they're worth their weight in gold. St. Anton is very pricey and an average dinner for two would probably run you a hundred dollars. The breakfast is pretty good, too. The room had a covered balcony with two chairs and a table and a view (see pic). Since there was no mini-fridge, we stored our food and bevs out there to stay cold. There is a free van from 8-11 a.m. and again from 3-5 p.m. that shuttles you and your gear up and down the hill to the base of the mountain. Otherwise they charge 11 Euros, the same as a cab charges. When the heat went out in my room, a guy brought up a portable space heater within 5 minutes. I was impressed by the speedy service. Also, it's very clean.
THE BAD: Aesthetically speaking, it could use a facelift because like other reviewers noticed, it is a bit dated looking with a mishmash of haphazard color and style combos. The higher up the mountain you go away from town, the better the hotel prices are. Mooserkreuz is one of the farther hotels, so if you walk, be in shape because it's a good 20 minute chug uphill. Add to that the altitude (4300 feet at the base) and if you've been skiing or riding all day, it may not be a particularly fun walk, and the the "free" public bus that runs every half hour becomes 3.50 Euros (each way) after dark! The hotel has no elevator. The rooms don't have a thermostat, so you can't control the temp. The room didn't have a bathtub, and the tiny square shower was concealed by a polyester shower curtain that kept blowing inward and sticking to my legs. I ran out of hot water while showering before dinner. They need to buy a bigger hot water tank.
