We have just returned from a week's skiing in Obergurgl and stayed at the Granat Schlossl. The first thing to say is that the hotel is not in a bad location just not in the centre of the village and the access is a bit tricky as we had to be towed out by a landrover! Everything about the hotel is very quaint and the owner Josef is very friendly but there are a few things to be careful of. We were the only English staying there and sometimes the waiting staff seemed to forget we were there. The rooms were large but a bit old fashioned and the beds were as hard as rock. The food generally was good and healthy but certainly not cordon bleu. Apparently the Bergwelt has the best food in town, we met friends for a drink there and it was lovely. In general it was fine but we shall not be returning to Obergurgl as the lack of good mountain restaurants and ambience was not good. The Hohe Mut was great fun for a Wednesday night but that was it. We didn't get to the Nederhutte because my daughter broke her collarbone on the first day (not good signposting) and the weather came in at the end of the week. The kids tobogganed in Hochgurgl on the last day which they enjoyed. The Edelweiss seems to be full of English people if that's what you like. We had some very nice Danish/Swiss guests in our hotel and the cleaning staff were very concerned about my daughter which was nice.

If you like nice surprises - then you will love to discover Obergurgle. First of all because the whole place makes a rare and nice mixture of a reserved premiumness and family warmth. Second - great skying opportunities and a wonderful quality service. Austria is, was and will be the best here. Great pistes (quality, quantity), lifts and apres-skying. Even the culture of the skyers is impressive here. People are very helpfull, so the day in the mountains is a pure pleasure. And third - is Granat Schlossl Hotel. The warmest and kindest family hotel where all your questions are always welcomed and kindly solved; where you get a wonerfull opportunity to widen your knowledge of Austrian cuisine with an every day 5 course dinners; you can relax and enjoy the after skying time in the sauna, steam bath and infra red sauna.
And where you meet Josef and his family team. On Sunday he geathers all the guests, so you have drinks and meet each other, he presents his team and talks about what you can do to enjoy OberGurgle more (for example, on Tuesday you can enjoy a night show of the sky instructors and a beautiful fireworks and the night skying).
Come to Granat Schlossle... and discover yourself what is "Nagelstock Regeln", because you're going to love it. And Josef and Jurgen are there for a revenge.

P.S.1: Forgot to say that the lifts are close to the hotel (5 minutes of walking or 1 minute on the free bus).
P.S.2: During all the stay I wanted to send best regards to the person who did the decorations of the hotel (sooo nice).
P.S.3: Don't forget about the low atmosphere preasure when you open your shampoo.

My family would like to thank the owners of hotel for their warm hospitality during our stay! We were only there one night, and were the only guests. Manuel was very happy to have us all the same! Thank you! We ate at the hotels summer house. A nice walk took us there and we were greeted by the owners, Joesph and Mary-Ann. Thank you for the nice meal and drinks!

We were very happy to find this hotel and were even happier to have it all to ourselves! Will have to visit during the ski season sometime. Thanks from Japan!

A really comfortable, good-value hotel in Obergurgl, 5 minutes from the lift with excellent breakfast and dinners. Hotel owners and staff and very personal and friendly. I will definitely go back!
