“A welcome return!”

We stayed in the Berg Residenz last New Year, and apart from the Crystal Rep, we had an excellent holiday. The location between Obergurgl and Hochgurgl, with a ski bus stop right outside the front door, allowed easy transfer to the slopes (minutes in either direction). We were also very impressed with the quality of the accommodation and the food. The staff were extremely welcoming and helpful, and all things considered, we decided that for any future ski holidays to Obergurgl we should choose to stay here again.
Having left things a little late to book, we found ourselves staying in a Junior Suite in the Hotel Muhle and have returned home even more impressed than last year. Whilst we would happily stay in the Berg Residenz again, the hotel offers a greater selection of food (and afternoon tea) in more formal surroundings, although families with young children also appeared to be well catered for. The newly enhanced pool and spa facilities allow the more conservative traveller to enjoy a top class sauna and steam room without being naked - a development by the owners in direct response to previous guests' comments.
Most of the guests in either accommodation are German, Austrian or Russian, who all book directly with the hotel as we did this year, flying into Munich and hiring a car for the 3-4hr drive (although flying into Innsbruck would allow a transfer of less than 90mins).
Some may prefer to be in the village itself, but the hotel offers an inclusive shuttle service for night skiing and through the day the ski bus service runs every 10mins.
We have stayed in two different Obergurgl hotels in the summer, but the Muhle has better food, facilities and a warmer welcome. The Muhle will continue to be our choice for winter holidays.
P.S. No Austrian hotels offer tap water, so please do not take offence to paying for bottled water. Prices for the fine wines offered by the glass or bottle seemed reasonable for a hotel of this standard.

Room Tip: Refer to the Hotel's website for room details. Front rooms have the best views.

This is our fourth visit to this hotel and have always found the owners and staff friendly and eager to please. The food is of a high standard and plenty of it. The wellness area enables you to relax and unwind each day.
The hotel is situated half way between Obergurgl and Hochgurgl with regular bus services to both slopes giving you the option of starting and finishing on different ski areas.
I would agree with Alan Wickerman that Crystal were very poor and the hotel is able to get your lift pass for you.

“Thoroughly recommended”

I was slightly apprehensive about booking an hotel betwixt and between Obergurgl and Hochgurgl_ I needn’t have worried. There’s a bus stop right outside the front door and the free ski bus service which comes every 10 to 15 minutes during peak times. It’s better to take the bus to the Hochgurgl or other lift, as schlepping through town in boots with skis can be a bit of a bind.

This is a lovely hotel. The owner is very friendly,. As are the staff. It’s very comfortable without being overly luxurious< A solid $star> It’s typically Austrian and slightly old fashioned, although not the old, having been built by the current owner.

The food is very good. There’s a bit too much of it perhaps, for those lacking in willpower. Dinning is a multi course affair with various options for main and desserts. One for under 16s and prudes, with a small indoor pool. The other, with two large chill out areas, is very naked with a very large, sauna, and aroma therapy rooms. Massages are available.

There is a very small play area for toddlers and a TV room with a stock of kids videos, though not DVDs - although most are in German

We booked with Crystal, whose reps were worse than useless. But your own lift passes if you want to be guaranteed to ski on your first day.

I have no hestiation in recommending this hotel for anyone who’s not looking for somewhere based in the centre of town.

Room Tip: Room at the front have better views. Rooms at the back have south facing balconies.

“An excellent hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 December 2011

My family and I (four adults) have just returned from a fantastic week's skiing in Obergurgl/Hochgurgl that was made perfect by our stay in this excellent hotel. In particular the food in the hotel's 4* restaurant was extremely good, with 5 course meals prepared to the highest standards. The hotel's well equipped and recently built swimming pool, sauna & wellness area was fantastic for soaking away the bumps & bruises of a days skiing. The staff were friendly and helpful throughout our stay and made us feel very welcome. The location midway between Obergurgl & Hochgurgl was ideal with a frequent bus service connecting the hotel & the main lifts to both ski areas, there was no walking in ski boots to be done!

Stayed here for a weekend ski trip. Staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The food was very good and the hotel facilities were excellent. Nice pool and spa. Free 5 minute bus transfer to Obergurgl. Will definitely visit again.

Note: please plan your route before you depart - some roads are closed during the winter season.
