It was a difficult decision whether or not to write a review about this hotel and Niederau as a location for skiing.....It was such an unspoilt gem of a holiday that I want to keep it a secret really!
My only reason for writing the review is that Herbert and the staff at the Harfenwirt worked so hard to make our stay special, they deserve a review!
Austria is a very pretty country on the whole and the people are pleasant and approachable, it was a revelation to ski here after many seasons skiing in France.
Niederau is a smallish resort but with the inclusion of the Auffach area offers enough variation in skiing for at least a week or ten days. There are plenty of blue learner type slopes and also enough more challenging runs if you want them.
The costs of ski pass, ski hire and apres ski are in the main 25% cheaper than in France but the quality is probably higher. Expect to pay about €160 for a week pass and €3 for a beer!
The Harfenwirt is a great ski location to stay, you can walk about 100m from the heated ski boot room to the foot of a lift.
The hotel is very clean, the food was traditional and hearty, the staff were very helpful and the host is a class act!
The more modern, later addition rooms were better equipped and had a very nice view, it's definitely worth upgrading to a superior room. The public areas were kept clean and the pool was very nice.
The official rating was 3* but Thomson rate it as a 4T.....I definitely would rate this hotel 4*. (I have stayed in far worse 4* rated hotels that this!)
Go book it! you won't be disappointed!
