This has been the sixth or seventh stay at the Fischerwirt for a weeks skiing holiday, where the welcome is as friendly as ever. Birgit runs the place with admirable efficiency and Monica runs the dining room with precision and panache.
Location - central Zell in the pedestrianised area, close to virtually all amenities, especially the ski lift and ski bus.
Rooms - not huge but then again, large enough unless you want to hold a party in one. Kept spotlessly clean.Well heated in winter, although you can turn down the radiator if they are too hot.
Food - more than is good for you unless you are very active. Breakfast buffet catering for all tastes, with hot eggs, cold cheeses and hams, cereals and a selection of breads. Dinner always has a choice of two or three main courses, including vegetarian. Fish is usually on offer as a choice.
Bar area - the only weak spot as this is quite small and smoking is still allowed in bars in Austria.
It is true that the noise from others in the street can be intrusive, but this lasts only a few minutes - and they are meant to be enjoying themselves!
All in all, a fairly typical family style hotel. If you are looking for 21century chrome and steel, look elsewhere. If you want to experience true Austrian hospitality in an older hotel, give the Fischerwirt a try. Having tried others in Zell, the Fischerwirt wins on friendliness.
