Stayed 5 nights for €380, which i felt was a fantastic deal. Printed out the hotel's location on googlemaps and it did look very nearby to the train station. We walked a little into the walking street before turning left, and had to lug our luggage over cobbled paths, gravel roads and a small flight of stairs.. upslope!! then we finally spotted the hotel and realised we could, and SHOULD have simply walked along the road. that was definitely a dumb mistake!
Check-in was a breeze, was greeted by a friendly lady and she gave us some brochures and a hotel guestcard to get discounts on ski rental...
Our room (200) had 2 beds together, and a small one by the wall. It was bigger than i expected, probably they gave us an upgrade? The television was tiny though, haven't seen such a model in years! And the only english channel was CNN, which was about the Japan earthquake all day long, a little depressing but can't help it, my heart goes out to them.
The shower size was fine for me (1.6m) but my partner (1.8m) said he couldn't bend at all, to wash his toes haha! The bed was heavenly, slept better than many other 5* hotels.. but then again we were tired out after all the skiing. Curtains were very thin, but we planned to get up at sunrise (7am?) everyday so it was the light shining through was perfect.
Breakfast was included... good spread of cheese and hams, cereals, teas, a cake, a toastmaker, scrambled eggs and warm bacaon. Everyday was the same. We filled up each morning and that lasted us till lunch, no restaurant in the hotel in the evening which was a pity!
We walked to the CityXpress gondola each day, about 10-12min away? We went in ski boots the first day, but the next 3 days I brought them along to change. My shins were KILLING me.
No wireless in the rooms, only at the lobby area and a cosy room they set up...
Our last night, I mentioned to the lady at the reception that our train was the next day at 530am so she told me to simply leave the room keys at the desk (as there's no staff there from, 8pm till 7am?) the next morning. Then she offered to fix us snack packs since we'd be missing breakfast the next day... that really touched me. It wasn't much, just an apple, pack of juice, a sandwich and a granola bar... but it warmed my heart :)
We walked along the road to the station this time, and it was a leisurely 5-10min stroll away. It was a joke how much we panted on our way up there! If we ever return to Zell Am See, without a doubt I would book here again. You should too!
