We arrived late on Saturday night to be greeted with a glass of sparkling wine and then in to dinner for and excellent meal.
The bedroom which was located in the older part of the hotel (room 201) was adequate but with inadequate (3) hooks to hang up the ski clothes. The balcony was large enough but unfortunately the room faced directly onto the rear of a rather tired looking and scruffy apartment block. The bathroom was generally well fitted but it very easy to slip getting into or out of the bath and there were no grab handles if you wanted to take a shower. The corridor outside the bedroom was also extremely cold in part because the hotel is being extended (so some noise from building works) just past our bedroom and the door was left open to the new extension which still does not have the windows fitted. Cleanliness in the bedroom left a little to be desired with the tops of the wardrobes not having been dusted for some time and some staining around the toilet.
The wellness area in the basement is generally well laid out but you may well find that the swimming pool feels very cold when you first enter. Whirlpool jets in the main pool area very good when they work. The separate hot tub would have been very nice if you could ever get in it. One family would hog the entire hot tub for well over an hour at a time! Downstairs from the swimming pool is a sauna and turkish bath area where the usual Austrian dress code applies (albeit ignored by some). The Sauna and hot steam room are extremely popular and again are frequently filled to capacity (ie too small for such a large hotel). The relaxation area complete with water beds is excellent and highly recommended.
The dining room is divided into two sections. The smaller section where we were seated on the first night is some distance from the buffet and is a little claustrophobic. We asked to be moved to the main section of the dining room and were very happy with our table after that. The staff in the dining room could not be more helpful and nothing was too much trouble. The food was generally very good but on occasions the ambitions of the chef exceeded the capabilities of the kitchen and I would rate four of the dinners as being excellent, one as satisfactory (sorry but I make a much better beef stroganoff that that) and the other two as poor. As others have noted, the hotel does not offer jugs of water preferring to sell overpriced bottled water (a great shame when the water from the tap is as good if not better) and they are keen to sell you their more expensive wines. Breakfasts offer all the choice that you could reasonably wish for in a holiday hotel but if you want a hot breakfast you may have to stand in a queue for as long as 20 minutes.
The hotel offers a courtesy shuttle bus to the City Express lift in the morning which runs every 15 minutes and can be booked at reception. We were told that they would send the bus to collect you at the end of the day if you phoned reception - unfortunately the only day we tried to use the afternoon service, we were told that the driver had the day off.
Overall a very good hotel but too many minor shortcomings prevent an excellent rating.
