Sadly have to echo some of the other comments about the service, and the disdain we felt sometimes as British holidaymakers. I think if your Austrian or from the Fatherland,
Russia, or indeed anywhere but Britain, you will have altogether different take on your stay here.
Just to cite one example, and there were quite a few instances of discrimination, we were told on one night, that we had to stay on the table we were allocated at the beginning of the week for the duration of our holiday, and were swiftly moved from the table we'd chosen by the window. That would have been totally fine, had the goal posts not moved the next evening, When we came down to dinner we were told, we had been moved form our "allocated" table to allow for a group of Russians and were given an inferior table. When I questioned this,as it contradicted what we had been told the night before, I was rudely told, in an aggresive Germanic accent and with an angry raised voice, that this was the way is was and "tough"! Nice.
The service is sketchy also, which is down to fact they have very very limited number of staff
like 2 waiters max for the whole dining room and sometimes only one, so they are rushed off their feet. This was during Xmas week, when you would of thought at high capacity, they should have brought in a couple more people to help out.
Also it seriously lacked atmosphere at Xmas - very.low key meal, no real decorations or any sense of an event...Very different to our stay in Soll the year before, where there was a great gala dinner and lots of Xmas fun...
which brings me neatly to the buffet- clearly to cut down in waiter costs.
The food is not bad, but can get quite repetitive, and drinks, even soft ones are pretty expensive- nearly a £5 for a bottle of sparkling water compared to 60p at the shops.
, wine around 25 euros for the cheapest bottle of house wine, compared to 4 Euros in supermarket for say a Chianti.
There are ,of course, some good things about the hotel, the outdoor heated pool - great fun in winter and spa area, the big balconies in the new block and the rooms generally are spacious and pretty good,
To sum up, we visited a number of other 4 star hotels during our stay in Zell, and I think for comparable money, you can do much better, more central and better atmosphere- This is 12 minutes out if town up a steep hill as well.
We could have stayed for just a little more at The Grand on the lake, which we wish we had done. There is no comparison .Now The Grand, that is a nice hotel!!
