I would not recommend this hotel.
Well hotelrooms are generally clean. But thats all.
How does this hotel got its stars and appreciation in appearance, wellnessing and cuisine?
Hotel appears like a 3 star hotel.  Rooms and general facilities areas smelling oldish AND in relaxing/lounge areas smoking is allowed - in a Wellness hotel (!) its incredible.
Especially, service personal working here are talking about the unsatisfying job circumstances and are stressed (even in the lower season!) But in the meantime same service personal ignoring hotel guests, closing doors loud, talking loud with each other about their bad working situation. I felt so sorry when asking for something and disturbing them.
In this hotel there is a, so called, Wellness Schlossl, where you can enjoy massage etc., not bad, but nothing special.
Watch out when eating something in its honoured kitchen. You can find something more than expected in your meal (!).

On the other hand some experienced staff members were really nice and had a five star manner. But this was more an exception.

By the way: I was treated by a person not being an austrian! This might give you an impression of what kind of people used to stay there...

“Heaven on earth”

This is by far, the most heavenly stay I've experience so far.
The staff-Each and every member of the staff and I mean absolutely each and every one of them - helpful, always with genuine smile, caring and most of all everything was not overdone - I have nothing but good words for all of this hotel personnel - from the girls at the reception, to the maid, the divine cooks, the waitresses/waiters (absolutely adorable with our daughter of 4 years old) - kudos to the owners for having gathered in one place the crème de la crème.
The room-Spacious, spotless, divine mattress, amazing view (garden view rooms are more pricey, we had a lake view room- sometimes we could hear the train passing by, but this wasn't an issue for us).
The food-Oh my god, the food...the utmost top quality fresh local products offered- simply amazing.
The lunch buffet is with the top quality products but smaller- sincerely, this really suffice considering the divine rich breakfast you can have and the top notch dinner served in the evening.
The Wellness castle (SPA & outdoor heated swimming pool) , indoor swimming pool & Jacuzzi-Spotless, spacious and again, heavenly :)
The calm and soothing atmosphere in the garden and inside the hotel is out of this world.
The only annoying thing is the cigarette smell we noticed in the reception area, sometimes in the evenings.
Divine place. Can't wait to go back!!!

Salzburgerhof for us is the top hotel in Austria. Service is super, like a Shangri-La with the touch of Tirol. Spacious rooms, on demand with garden view and steam douche. Housekeeping at a high level. A renowned Spa (4 lily’s) with ravishing treatments like vitalspot foot massage, massage on muscle meridians, a floating basin to dream away, great in- and outdoor pool, jacuzzi. All this in a calm and relaxing “Schloss” surrounded by a beautiful garden, were you might even swim in the pond. The restaurant serves, beside the à la carte, as half board a breakfast as large as seldom seen and a dinner with 4 of 5 courses, choice of two or three always delicious options. If you want to stay the day in the hotel you can enjoy the small but tasteful self service lunch and join the tea with the home made pastries. Restaurant and bar (Peter!) service is perfect. Choice of wines, especially the Austrian ones, is vast. You can’t have better in Zell am See and surroundings. This last is a already a reason to come, because this area offers so much. In winter all kinds of winter sport and in summer, besides skiing on the Kitzsteinhorn glacier, walking, hiking, cycling and swimming and sailing on the lake. A summer goal for the whole family. We will go here over and over again.

“Fantastic hotel.....”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 September 2011

This was the first lap of a central European tour in early September. We stayed 4 nights in a garden suite which was fantastic, very high quality everywhere and we even had a sauna in our rather large bathroom. The hotel staff were exceptionally good with the service in both the bar and restaurant, attentive, remembered what you liked and how it should be cooked - top notch. Parking in a secure garage was free as was use of the bicycles. The food was plentiful and, to be honest, you couldn't hope to do it all justice. From the extensive breakfast buffet through lunch, afternoon strudels to a 5 or 6 course dinner, all of extremely high quality, there was plenty to go at. The resort itself is beautiful with lots to do if you like walking and boating or golf. Along with the spa facilities this is certainly a splendid example of a family run, albeit fairly large, hotel. The owners were very keen to ensure their guests were happy with the service and, unusually, made a point of asking for feedback. Not many hotels would risk doing that ! Overall, fantastic and will definitely return sooner rather than later.

Room Tip: If the noise might bother you (we didn't notice it) stay in a garden room.

“Heavenly - again”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 September 2011

Is it a mistake to go back to somewhere which was so good the first time around? Not when it is this hotel. I was worried because we knew that alterations were being made to the garden to accommodate a larger swimming pool. The garden is one of the glories of the Salzburger Hof - a place of quiet relaxation when neighbouring htels have used every inch of ground for internal profit-making activities.
It took me two days before I realised what alterations had been made! The garden is still lovely, I defy anyone to "see the join", and the larger pool is a delightful improvement, allowing serious swimmers and the more relaxed to each have their own spaces.
Everywhere the decor reflects sumptuous but quiet good taste, the food lives up to its Gault-Millau rating and the staff are helpful, cheerful and efficient. Even on the one evening when a sudden influx of guests strained the service in the restaurant, the problem was fixed by drafting in front desk and bar staff. The on-site presence of owners Herr & Frau Holleis ensures a quick remedy to any problem. (Thank you, Herr Holleis for sorting out my room safe when I couldn't open it!)
The standard is so high that what would pass unremarked anywhere else ( a slightly rubbery piece of veal - the only dud note in the gastronomic symphony) was a disappointment. Oh yes, and my husband lamented the lack of orange marmelade (ie English marmelade, not orange jam) at breakfast. How pathetic!!
We've already booked for next year.
