“Terrible service in the bar . . . .”

Although we (four friends) were not overly impressed when we visited the bar in the Eva Village Hotel last year, the service was so appalling this time that I feel compelled to warn others.
After waiting for 10 minutes for the manager / owner ? (a 65ish year-old man with white hair) to notice us sitting at a table we politely beckoned him over to take our drinks order - his immediate reaction was to shout something at us after which he stormed off mumbling. Finally his colleague (a large woman dressed in a fur coat) wobbled over and took our order. Whilst sipping our drinks and looking at the menus, a group of 12 diners sat at the long table next to us. Their introduction was exactly the same as what we had received and after patiently waiting for 10-15 minutes one of the group had the nerve to call over the same mature waiter who reacted even more vehemently, standing infront of the poor man and lecturing him for two minutes in a raised voice. After the tirade the group did the sensible thing and walked out. Did the rude member of staff apologise or try to placate the group? Not a bit; he shrugged and walked off grumbling again.
The location of this hotel / bar will always make it popular but hopefully forums such as Trip Advisor will encourage people to stay away. Then maybe the rude man will understand that he cannot treat paying customers in the way he does.

“not great”

We were in a ski trip to Saalbach and spent several nights in Eva Village. Best thing about this hotel is the great location, right next to the ski lifts. It's quite clean and the staff is ok, always helpfull but not very experienced. I have to say the worst thing is the food, it looks spectacular and has confusing names but it really has no taste at all, not to add that the breakfast butter had expired date. In the winter you have to add 10 eur/day if you need a parking place, which is not included. It's not really a quite place if you expect that. I would check some other places before choosing this hotel next time.

“Great central location and excellent food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 March 2010

Great hotel for a group looking to enjoy good apres ski and for convenient access to slopes, lifts etc. The food was excellent and there were no complaints in this direction. The only drawback to this hotel was that some rooms are located directly above a nightclub, which closes in the early hours of the morning. My advice would be to ask for a quiet room or one situated away from this area. Other than that, the rooms were clean, spacious and had comfortable beds.

“good location , not bad for the right price - book direct not through a tour operator”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 February 2010

the hotel eva is very centrally located in saalbach with only a short stumble to the new elevator to the piste. We had an allure suite for 2 adults and 1 child and it was spacious and pretty. Saalbach is generally a noisy town in the evening with many bars and clubs usually leading to singing in the main street about 2 - 3am which is disruptive. we booked direct with the hotel and this was much cheaper than with say Inghams - as kids under 11 only pay 25% - this made it great value but i would have been disappointed if i had paid £1800 each for a half term week. The downsides were the bar come restaurant come reception which all merge into one starting at the front door - which meant that that all were slightly too small. Also the boot room was very out of date and way too small for the hotel - the racks for the skis were too narrow to put them in properly and so they were always falling and jamming the racks. there were approx 8 old and scruffy chairs to accomodate the morning rush so that was disappointing. The room was nice though - and the food , buffet etc was also good. Would i stay again ? maybe at the right price.
