“Good location, doesn't break the bank”

The hotel is 2 minutes walk from the best ski lift in the resort. We had a room at the back of the hotel which had a lovely balcony. Dinner is basic (hope you like pork and chips!) - don't expect anything fancy, especially from desert! If you just want sustainance at a cheap price then this is ideal. No drinks are included so watch out that you don't get coerced into spending a fortune.

Plenty of hot water for baths and the other guests were friendly. It was a shame the hotel didn't have a swimming pool or sauna but there are public baths two minutes down the road which are very good (10 euros).

“Not a typical Austrian Hotel”

No-one to greet us on arrival. No lift. Bedding not clean and the food was awful. On the positive side the location good - very near the lift.

“Ideal location probably best thing about it”

stayed here for a week in january this year, hotel is clean but in major need of refurbishment stuck in a bit of a time warp! agree with previous comments about smoking, by the time we had climbed 3 flights of stairs in thick smoke we needed oxygen! We had a room on the back of hotel which unfortunately overlooked a very noisy bar, bit of a problem with noise in the early hours. Food was at best very plain , at worst small portions and bizarre combinations no veg and tinned sliced peaches or swiss roll for dessert is not my idea of fine dining! young waiter was very cheerful same could not be said of waitress(bit of an ogre) definitely lacking in charm and welcome. Location in village was excellent right opposite cable car but would we stay here again? probably not.

“Geat location”

Hotel is situated in the center in Hinterglemm right opposite the gondala Reiterkogelbahn it's not ski on/off but its very close. It has a ski room to hold all your equipment which was very useful.

More of a pension than a hotel we has a room on the 3rd floor at the front without a balcony. There is no lift so don't get too tired on the slopes. The room was a nice size, (we heared the rooms on the back wtih the baloconies were bigger) TV was availalbe but there are no english channels so you'll have to brush up your Austrian. The room was clean and warm, the daily clean included a towel change on request. The bathroom lacked a bath which was a shame but there was plenty of boiling hot water which was very welcome after a long day on the slopes.
The decor is plain and simple and a little tired around the edges but it doesn't seem to detract from its charm.

We found the hotel quiet and there was no Apres Ski witihin ear shot. However this wasn't the case for the people on the other side of the hotel were there is one very noisey venue that kept them awake. So I guess you get the big room with the balcony and some noise or the quiet smaller room.

We found it all very nice and had no compliants.

Breakfast was plentiful and varied continetal buffet breakfast. Nice cured meats and cheeses and lovely fresh bread. Plenty of coffee and tea.

Dinner was nice, mostly plain and occationally a little unusual. However considering what we paid (£370 pp 1/2 board through Neilsen) it was really very good.

One thing we didn't like was that it was a smoking hotel (in fact it seemed almost compulsory there were so many people smoking at breakfast) .

We were there for Xmas and they made a real effort for the day with sparkerlers on the trees and the owners mum greeting all the guests and a special meal.

Really its the hotels location was its best asset which couldn't be more central if it tried.

We had a great holiday and would certainly consider going back.

“Great location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 March 2008

The hotel is brilliantly located opposite the best of the ski lifts in Hinterglemm, although the hotel is not "ski in ski out". The hotel itself if a bit shabby, although clean and comfortable - fine if you're on a budget. The food was ok - the breakfast buffet was a typcial continental buffett with cheese, hams, pate and boiled eggs etc. The evening food was ok - 3 course meal which usually had pork as the main course meat - I wouldn't bother with the evening meal but would eat out if I stayed there again, although it was nice and was edible!
The staff are helpful, particularly the waiter - ask him for eggs and bacon in the morning and he'll sort it out for you! The bar in the celler was not busy or particularly popular but we couldn't hear it from our room. Hinterglemm definitely has better skiing than Saalbach but Saalbach has the better bars and nightlife. Hinterglemm has got the London Bar and Bar Pfiff which were great in the evening but for apres-ski, go to the Goatstall which is at the bottom of the run opposite the hotel - best location, music and beer!
