“Great hotel, fantastic spa area, great value for money”

We just returned from a fantastic week at Hotel Sonne in Saalbach-Hinterglemm. The hotel has everything we could wish for. It is a family-run hotel with very nice and accommodating staff. The hotel seems to be newly renovated and is comfortable and clean. The thing we appreciated the most was the new spa area. It is a lovely, quiet area with several different saunas, stylishly designed showers and two resting areas with waterbeds (!) and resting chairs, one of them with a fireplace. It is for adults (15 years and up) only, which makes for the restful atmosphere. In the "old" (also very nice) spa area, kids can play in the pool and use whirlpool and saunas.
We recommend taking Frank´s special massage - he is very skillful.

In the restaurant, you get your own table for the whole week, which we appreciated. The menu is well varied, and the food is good, although not great, which is why we do not give the hotel the very top rating. They have a good choice of wines and a sommelier (or at any rate he is very knowledgeable about wine) that gives you good advice.
Hotel Sonne is located about 900 m from Saalbach centre and the lifts. This is however not any problem whatsoever, since the hotel provides an excellent shuttle service to the lift of your choice. We saw many people staying closer to the centre that had to walk quite a long way to the lifts, staying at hotels with no shuttle service.
All in all, great value for the money!

“Great food and nature”

This summer I went to Hotel Sonne with my boyfriend and my parents. The location of the hotel is really calm, you have no internal or external noise. The ceckin was quickly and friendly. The rooms were really clean. I must say that in the beginning I was a litle bit dispappointed of our room because the furniture was a bit old and the room and bathroom was small. The room of my parents was bigger. But afterwards, I noticed that the room was really clean, that the linnen was fine, so I had no complaints. People that are used to sleap in the dark, the curtains are fine, so the room is not dark. During our stay we saw other rooms while the staff was cleaning and those rooms were new and renovated. Maybe we got those older rooms because we booked with a touropater and had a big discount?

The staff was super friendly, you tast that it is a familly hotel. The food was excellent ! It is fine cuisine. Every day 4-7 courses, once there was a gala-dinner. Every day there was a wine selected by every course, but you had always the choice of 5 other wines. The breakfast is very good, the lunch also and at 3 o'clock there is soup and dessert. My boyfriend took 5 kilos extra to home :-)

The location is good, when you walk 1km you are at the lifts to go in the mountains for beautifull walks and trials.
We also visited the Krimml waterfalls and Zell am see.

The Spa was nice, but basic.

Go to this hotel, good experience but don't expect to much luxuory.

“Perfect Getaway and great food to boot!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 February 2010

My wife so fortunate as to win a trip to the Hotel Sonne in the Austrian alp village of Saalbach. We stayed with our two kids of 8 and 9 for a week in the family run hotel and I must say that I have never experienced such fantastic service: First and foremost no matter what the qualm be it a matter of getting a taxi ("no, no, sir! The hotel bus can take you") or finding the right piste-area for the family or simply being served in both style, a friendly atmosphere and with the outmost correctness the Hotel Sonne just is amazing! We felt so fortunate and well catered for all week that I can only stress our desire to go back. Also to be mentioned is the food: Great cuisine with a standard of 6 courses every day, a fine breakfast table (eventhough I never quite got to terms with what the Austrians class as Bacon) and every day home from skiing a nice little 3 course ski-snack meal! If you travel with children, you'll appreciate the hotel bus taking you back and forth from the piste areas. If you're tired when comming back from skiing there is the spa, the sun-beds, the aroma therapy room, the pool or the sauna to comfort you. Where ever you look, there's also a friendly waiter, just wanting to serve you. Hotel Sonne. Go there, if you get the chance!

“Great Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 January 2010

We have just returned from a weeks skiing in Saalbach, a group of 15 with the majority of the group made up of adults with 3 teenagers. We were very impresed with the hotel the staff were very friendly and helpful the rooms were great (we upgraded with Neilson for superior rooms) The hotel facilities were lovely the pool, sauna and hot tub definate winners. The food was very good although you really didn't need to eat 5 courses every night!! The selection from the menu was good and even the teenagers in our group found something to eat every day. They even made us up a packed breakfast on the day we left which was good. The gym is wellequiped and the equipment is nearly brand new.

The hotel run their own activities programme and the sledging was a great hit, at only 7 euros + the taxi it was the best fun, we laughed all the way down and the hotel receiptionist was really good fun and made it a great night.

The shuttle bus to the lifts each days is good but you do have to wait, if there are a few of you I would imagine in high season you could be waiting quite a long time although the free ski bus does stop just over the road from the hotel and runs every 20 mins. Pick up in the afternoon is easy you can either wait for the shuttle or ring the hotel and they will send the bus to come and get you (between 4pm & 5pm) I would like to mention that the free ski shuttle in the village finishes at 5pm which is really annoying as there is only one bus each hour from the main Shattenburg lift area after that although not expensive at 1.7 euros each one way to the hotel. The Apre Ski in town is great and was really busy even in low season.

I would deifnatly use this hotel if we went to Saalbach again.
