Just returned after a fantastic week skiing in Kaprun/Zell am Zee. While I would recommend the Sporthotel as an ideal location to cover all ski areas - that's where I'd stop.
It is the pits as far as food is concerned.
On any vacation, no matter where in the world, one would have to get accustomed to the food but when, by and large, what you are gettiing is processed food from a tin it beggers belief how this place can call itself a 'hotel'. At breakfast the fruit cocktail was straight from a tin, the orange and cranberry juice was again from a tin and heavily watered down at that. Again for dinner the chef (sic) depended on the tin-opener for beetroot, tuna, kidney beans, lentils and the only natural ingrediants provided were lettuce and the odd tomato or diced carrot - that was for starters. For main-course almost everything was straight from the freezer ie chicken and turkey coated in coloured breadcrumbs and as for pasta, how could they get that wrong, easy. it was cold and what was described as tomato sauce was straight form a bottle and tasted heavily of vinegar - yuck!
It is fair to say that, in spite of the bad reputation that airline food has, the best two meals I had all week were on the outbound and return flights with Austrian airlines - would that the Sporthotel would employ their chef. Then it would be an ideal location.
However, until you hear that the Sporthotel Kaprun has employed a proper chef, who can cook with natural ingrediants - steer clear.
