“Enjoyed our stay at the Chief Motel”

Very clean and wonderful hosts. We enjoyed our stay so much the first night we decided to stay again the next night. Bruce gave us the the "99 cent tour" with lots of good information about the area. Nancy was very helpful as well. We purchase our tickets for the $1.99 breakfast at the Wrangler - well worth it!! Nancy let us use Custer State Park Pass for our day at the park - saving us $15! Really nice folks and comfortable room. Would go back in a heartbeat.

“We Enjoyed the Chief Motel”

I really liked this motel. We thought about going ultra cheap and camping in cabins all six nights we visited the Black Hills/Mount Rushmore area but decided for the sanity of mom and dad to spend the first few nights in a motel before spending three nights camping. After reading the reviews here we chose the Chief Motel. The motel is nice and well taken care of. I would rate the size of the rooms as medium having stayed in larger and also much smaller rooms in my travels. The owner/manager was extremely nice and upgraded our room to a double suite because of an error in the reservation system through a travel agent. He had all this done before we even arrived! He also took a few minutes and really explained what some of the real gems are to of see in the Black Hills area (much of it free to do so no it wasn't like they are getting comped for this). The rooms were clean and the beds were surprisingly comfortable for a motel. Parking is assigned to the rooms right in front of them so easy parking. Everything went very well, no issues at all! This motel is located right on Custer's main artery and is very convenient to see Custer State Park, Crazy Horse, Mount Rushmore, Hill City, and Keystone. Really enjoyed staying here and would recommend. When we revisit the area we will be repeat customers!

Bruce and Nancy were excellent hosts. room was super clean real attention to detail. As a retired 20+ year veteran I have to say this motel the Chief was without a doubt one of the cleanest rooms I have ever had the pleasure to stay in. Staff was very friendly and very helpful. We had atticipated having the rest of our family come but due to problems with their car they never showed , explained this to Bruce and he did something that showed me customer satisfaction is goal # 1 with these folks. We normally stay in cabins at Custer but we will probably stay at the Chief in the future. Thank you to Bruce and Nancy and all the staff. eric and suna

“Glad I read reviews”

I was looking for a motel for my husband & I to spend a few days visiting Mt Rushmore area and I read the reviews on the Chief Motel. I am so glad I did because I would not have picked it. It was truly a delightful place and the staff were awesome. The owner took the time to explain things to do in the area. The rooms are small, but who needs a big room when all you are doing is showering & sleeping. The staff does a great job in the cleaning department. The owner recommended the local Wrangler cafe for meals and it was a good choice. You can't go wrong with the Chief!!!!

“Our 30th Anniversary Trip”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 September 2011

Our first time at this motel. Spent 4 nights here. Very homey and comfortable. Even had wedding ring quilts & pillow shams on the bed.Has been recently updated, but not ovedone to lose the charm. Very comfy and right in the heart of everywhere we planned to visit. Located on the main street so lots of things were in walking distance. We would definetly contact the Chief Motel on a return visit!
