We stayed here for 2 nights in the first week of September. Rates around the black hills were still pretty high except for a couple of hotels that sounded reasonable. But being the first trip to the Black Hills and first stay in a budget hotel, I was skeptic at first while booking. But we were pleased with everything from arrival until departure. The front desk staff ( owners of the hotel) were very kind, friendly and willing to help to their best. I felt like entering into a hotel room in the 80's (including the good old metal key entry). But the room itself was clean and the sheets changed both days of stay. They have some play area in their frontyard for kids but the play stuff is all old and ruined. High speed internet available at the hotel room as well as the lobby (has computer). Not many great restaurants around (one cafe/restaurant next to the hotel but we didn't like the food there) but there is a Pizza Hut and another pizza place close by. Other small eateries within walkable distance.
The location is unbeatable. Everything in the hills was just a few minutes of driving around the loop. It is only a few miles from the Jewel cave monument and next door to the Flintstones kids park. Nothing great about the complimentary breakfast. They couldn't have done it any more economical with it. But it was okay. Overall, it is a great value. I would recommend this hotel to anyone that is budget oriented yet prefers a decent place of stay in the black hills.
Tip: You might end up in a different budget motel if using GPS to arrive at the hotel. Just drive a few more blocks past a traffic signal and you'll find this one.
