“This is an acceptable accommodation”

About 300 paces from the start of New Orleans night life experiences. Very good value for what you get. This is not a 5 star hotel for sure, but it is fine. And the staff are very nice. Expect they missed our 2 wake-up calls.
This is a good place for the seasoned traveler with realistic expectations, but not for the fussy-unrealistic complainers of the world. There were some things missing from the room, such as a non-working phone and no clock, but there were lots of towels, and the linens were clean, even the bedspreads. There was plenty of hot water, and lots of coffees, teas etc in the room. There is free Continental breakfast for all guests--muffins, oatmeal and grits, cold cereal, toast, coffee, milk, tea and juice.
We would go back and recommend this for guests who are budget-minded. .

Room Tip: take a room further from the elevator as they are less-used and newer looking..

Thank you for staying with us at the O’Keefe Plaza Hotel. Your comments have told us we fell short in meeting the standards where improvements are needed. We are currently training front desk attendants to insure all wake up calls are met. In addition, the housekeeping staffs are making sure all items are in the room.

“I can't understand the negative reviews??”

I honestly cannot understand the negative reviews here? I think a lot of them are very unfair. This hotel was a gem of a find. Although one of the cheaper options in New Orleans, I found it to be excellent. Its location is second to none, just a 5 minute walk away from Canal Street. The hotel itself is small but nice. The staff were excellent on arrival and the room was fantastic. There is free wifi throughout the hotel and a computer to use in reception. The continental breakfast was amazing, the best I've seen in a while. If I was coming back to the Big Easy again, I would definitely recommend it.

“Better Options at Better Prices”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 January 2012

Much like a previous review, I stayed here during the weekend of the Saints NFL Playoff game and the BCS National Championship game. Finding any room in New Orleans downtown was very difficult but this would appear to do.

I had no problems checking in and the staff seemed pretty friendly to me. I had a good chat with them and the usual back and forth about coming from England. All good so far.

I walked past the breakfast area which looked pleasant enough and got in the lift up to my room. The decor and feel of the hotel was very much one that was 'in need of repair'. In honesty, if you told me they were waiting to demolish the building, I would have believed you.

The room itself was comfortable enough but the bathroom was very small and there was no door on it. This is not an issue if you are travelling on your own like I was but I can imagine this put many people in an embarrassing situation.

The hotel itself is not in the most ideal of locations, although that may be slightly picky. It's only 3 blocks to Canal Street and a further 2 blocks to Bourbon Street which is easily walkable. This, in my opinion, is also a safe walk. It is well lit and I don't believe this to be of any concern.

As with most hotels, if you just need somewhere to crash or to serve as a base then this may be ok for you but there are two factors which stand out for me. Firstly you can get cheaper hotels, secondly, these hotels are deeper in the French Quarter so this seems like an unnecessary location to be in at an unnecessary cost.

I have stayed in many hotels in New Orleans in the French Quarter (read my reviews). This is the last one I would stay in. Just not worth it.

Room Tip: I see no reason why they would be different, from room to room....

Dear Value Customer,
We really appreciate your stay with us. Our hotel is still under renovations. So far some of our rooms have been updated. Which includes flat screen T.V.’s, new comforter’s and furniture. In addition, the lobby is no longer carpet, it’s wooden. Also, the rest rooms are being repaired. In the summer all renovations should be complete.

Our hotel is in a great location. It’s walking distance to the superdome, French quarter and the world famous bourdon street. Restaurants are walking distance. We have great prices. I hope you choose to stay with us again, especially after renovations.

“The negative far outweighs the positive”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 January 2012

We had to book here because it was the only downtown hotel where we could find two rooms during the weekend of the Saints playoff game and the BCS National Championship game. Despite the negative reviews I went in with a positive mind and vowed to reserve judgement based solely on my own experience. First let me say, I experienced none of the billing issues other people have talked about in previous reviews. I was charged exactly what the website advertised and had no issues. Furthermore, the staff we encountered were very friendly and helpful. No complaints whatsoever in this regard. What we did have issue with is the room itself. I need to say that I am not one of those people that book a budget hotel and then give it a bad review because I expect 5 star amenities and service. Those people really bother me. That being said, even when booking a budget hotel there are certain simple things that I expect. One of these would be a phone in the room that actually works. Normally a room phone does not come into play for me, however on this trip I had 2 rooms booked on different floors. When trying to call my son in the other room the room phone did not work at all. I couldn't even call the front desk with it. Secondly, the television in the room was an ancient CRT TV that only received channels 1-13. If you are younger, you have probably never encountered these relics but people of my generation will know the type TV I am speaking of. So, despite the hotel having full cable, the TV in my room would only receive channels 1-13. Unfortunately none of the channels we cared about (ESPN, CNN, etc) were in this range. Furthermore, the lamp at the desk area did not work. At first I thought it was just a blown bulb however at one point the light did flicker on and then immediately went back out. We never ate the free continental breakfast, however there was a coffee issue. I went down to get my wife and I a cup of coffee and it was so weal that you could see to the bottom of the cup. I told the attendant about this and she asked the kitchen to make another urn of coffee. After waiting 20 minutes it finally came out. The attendant (who was nice as could be by the way) told me she asked the kitchen to add a little more coffee to make this urn a bit stronger but they refused. We ended up going to Starbucks for coffee. We did sleep well here and the location is perfectly situated between the French Quarter and the Superdome. Both are in easy walking distance. However the negatives far outweigh the positives at this hotel. I suppose this is the reason they were the only hotel in which I could find 2 empty rooms on short notice in what was a very busy weekend for the city of New Orleans.

“Shocking”

We booked via expedia and paid a premium for a room in New Orleans on New Years Eve Dec 2011. On arrival at around 2.45pm we were told that check in starts at 3pm by a sullen receptionist. We sat in the lobby to wait and our hearts sank as we eyed up the dirty floors, and general state of disrepair.
The walk from reception to our room left the soles of our shoes sticky. The corridors had not seen a vacuum cleaner in a long time. One of the towlels in the room was obviously used by someone else, there was no door on the shower, light bulbs were missing, the pillows were riduculously uncomfortable and to top it off the toilet overflowed. On reporting the broken loo, no one seemed particularly interested or worried. I have stayed in better accommodation at the YMCA and various youth hostels.

Room Tip: Use hot wire, do NOT stay here.
