“Impossibly small room, 1 double bed, no desk, no chair, no business center”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 February 2012

We booked and prepaid for a queen room through expedia ($228/night). Upon arrival we were given a room with only 1 double bed. The room itself was less than 10 feet wide, had no desk and no chair. When I returned to the front desk I was informed that room type is never guaranteed either through expedia OR through Omni itself. In addition, the hotel does not have a business center.

I found the switch of room type unprofessional, but the lack of a desk and/or chair and lack of a business center to be unacceptable. The hotel advertises all rooms come with an executive desk and does not make any reference to the fact there are any rooms with beds smaller than queen size.

The manager on duty the night of my arrival was a very kind man who attempted to resolve the problem. To counter this, when he walked away, his colleague advised me I should just "get drunk and pass out" so I would not remember the room. Ultimately, half way through my stay (and after hours at the front desk) I was moved to a better room. Had I only stayed in this larger room I would have had a different impression of the hotel. However, knowing the hotel has no guarantees and is knowingly numerous guests each night leaves me with an unfavorable impression.

Room Tip: Do not get rooms ending with"11"--- I.e. 411, 511, 611. These rooms are less than 10 feet...

First we want to apologize that you didn't get a queen room. Room type is guaranteed through our website and Expedia if your confirmation states as such. We are very sorry that we didn't have the room you booked. Second, some of our smaller rooms do not have a desk. We are working on a solution for the smaller rooms to provide a workspace that will fit in these rooms. Third, we regret our associates remark as a viable solution to your problem. We're glad that we were able to move you to a larger room half way through your stay. Thank you for your review. We will address all these issues to improve our hotel. We will also follow up with you privately for more information.

Stayed for 5 nights in late January. Staff were very welcoming and helpful. Room very comfortable. Was a bit noisy Saturday night but otherwise peaceful. Breakfast was wholesome and had great variety.

“Beautiful Hotel!!”

I absolutely loved this place. The location was very important to me. I wanted it to be convenient to everything but not directly in the mix. We were able to walk everywhere or pick up a trolley for anywhere else. Rooms were gorgeous. Spacious, with a spa tub, and comfortable beds. The only complaint I had was hearing the person in the bathroom in tge room next to us. Overall I would definately return.

“Expected more”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 January 2012

We booked this hotel for a conference my husband was attending at the convention center and thought the location would be ideal for my exploring the city. I have mixed feelings about the property and would probably not stay here again. Especially since my husband could have gotten the government rate we paid at any hotel in the city.

The plusses -- it is on side street that is very quiet with little street noise. The bed was fairly comfortable, and the staff was very friendly and service-oriented. It is in a great location for accessing the French Quarter and also for catching streetcars.

The negatives -- the room is quite small and space is lacking to store things in the bathroom. Also, the door in the bathroom looked like someone had done a very bad repair job on. One of the strangest things was the bathroom/shower set up. The shower had a half glass shower partition. It looked like half a shower door was missing, but this was obviousy the intent as there were no screw holes on the other side. Every time we took a shower, water splattered all over the floor, leaving puddles. Also, the towels, though thick, felt like sandpaper. The shower took about 5-10 minutes before the water got hot, it was lukewarm before that. TV reception on several channels was marginal.

One other thing, they have a lovely rooftop patio where the fitness center was, with chairs and chaises. However, apparently, many smoking guests use that as their smoking area, so was very unappealing for us, who are non-smokers. I did use the fitness room and the equipment was first-rate with towels, water and tv. There really isn't a pool, more like a over-size hot tub.

We did join their frequent stay club, and did get our Wi-fi free and got the free coffee and juice in the morning which was nice.

But at the rate we were paying which we couldn't have gotten at any hotel, I expected a nicer experience.

Room Tip: Rooms on inside are quieter and stay away from elevators.

We're sorry that the room wasn't to your liking. We are currently re-evaluating alternatives to replace the half glass partition in the shower. If you're looking for a larger pool and roof deck then you might enjoy our sister hotel in the French Quarter.

“excellent customer service during trying personal circumstances”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 January 2012

i had reservations for 2012 mardi gras, made sometime in august 2011 if you can believe it. i can't get into too much detail but for personal reasons i had to cancel my reservations. i chatted online with an omni representative (not from the particular hotel, but the larger omni parent company) who confirmed the policy on cancellation. i then a week later contacted the actual omni royal crescent hotel to confirm the status of my cancellation. during both conversations the employees working with me were very pleasant, kind and above all understanding of my circumstances. i can assure you that the next time i go to new orleans i will be staying at the omni royal crescent hotel, based exclusively on how their staff handled my situation. customer service is paramount to both a good experience and a repeat visit by a guest, and clearly the omni staff and those at the omni royal crescent hotel have made good customer service their priority.
