“Great location, New Orleans charm and PET friendly!!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

We stayed at this lovely hotel for two nights (Wed-Thu) the 1st week in January, so the Quarter was not crazy which was a plus for us. I went to school in NOLA and wanted to get back there with my husband who had never been. I wanted a hotel in the Quarter which had the New Orleans charm but modern amenities, walking distance to everything but not on Bourbon St. and that would accept our dog Jack. The Monteleone met all of our requirements and exceeded our expectations. I followed another reviewer's tip to book thru iprefer to get an upgrade and free wifi which was really great cause we got fantastic treatment. We even got a welcome kit for Jack (a food dish with a placemat, a bone to eat and one to play with and baggies for you know what;). We've stayed in wonderful hotels with Jack all over the US and Europe, but never got this kind of kit.

The room was just the right size with a King size bed (super comfortable), plasma TV and usual amenities. We were on the 14th floor without a view (well, not one to rave about since it was a brick wall), but we really didn't go to New Orleans to stay in our room so it was totally fine. Besides you can go to the rooftop for a great view of the city and a nice pool, gym area.

The staff was extremely helpful, friendly and professional. We spent our first night at the Caroussel Bar and got tipsy even before our first drink (it moves slowly but you feel it). They had just remodeled the restaurant area in a modern yet classy style. Very nice! We never ate at the restaurant, so can't comment on that. Breakfast is $20 so we opted to go elsewhere and explore the wonderful Cajun cuisine.

As far as prices, it's comparable to other hotels in the area (not cheap), but we felt that we got ours money's worth given the location and excellent service.

Needless to say we loved everything about this hotel and the city. We'll definitely stay here again on our next visit to New Orleans.

“I loved this hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2012

This hotel is beautiful!!! Dripping with old Southern charm and exquisitely maintained. The staff welcomes guests like family, and the rooms are gorgeous. The hotel's location is perhaps one of the best in town - walking distance to everything in the French Quarter, CBD, Treme, etc. I look forward to my next stay here.

“Beautiful Place, But watch your charges, THEY DO NOT RETURN CALLS”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

The first thing I will say is that the hotel is beautiful. My room was a small corner room which I loved and it was on the 11th floor. The staff were very friendly and helpful. I had breakfast there only one time, the reason is that it was almost $20.00 and the eggs were old and nasty, in fact, I couldn't eat them. So I had a choice of soggy potatoes, yogurt, fresh fruit, and the normal breakfast things. I was disappointed to say the least as I was looking forward to something more than a limited breakfast buffet. The real issues started when I asked the front desk person to charge my personal CC for my last night and leave the rest on my AMEX. When I checked out Laura (very nice person) assisted me and put 1 night on my personal cc and the rest on my AMEX. GREAT! Not really, I checked my account this AM only to find I had been charged over $900!!! I called accounting at the hotel and talked to Brittany who said to "just wait a couple of days and it will be refunded". I personally don't have a spare $900 laying around so I told her that was unacceptable and said I would call my bank. She said call my bank and then call her back and conference her in. When I tried that her phone went to voice mail. That was about 8 hours ago and I have still not heard back from her. VERY FRUSTRATING!!!

“Favorite French Quarter hotel.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

Let me begin by saying that I love the Monteleone. Its a wonderful old hotel in the heart of the Quarter with a lot of history, and ,most importantly, it houses the Carousel Bar which is truly unique. With New Orleans being my wife's native city ( and me having lived there off/on for many years) we visit quite frequently and the Monteleone is always our first choice if we are staying in th Quarter. Yes, the Ritz, Roosevelt, and Windsor Court have nicer rooms but they are not in the French Quarter. The Monteleone is in an excellent location for eating (Mr. B's across the street) and strolling the decadent streets.

The rooms are small as they are in all the French Quarter hotels but have been remodeled in recent years and are clean and comfortable. The rooms that face Royal Street seem to be smaller than those that face the river. Not all that much to say about rooms, by New Orleans standards they are just fine and after all, I hope you are not visiting New Orleans (and staying in Quarter) to laze around a hotel room.

A stay at the Monteleone is not complete without spending a substantial time sitting on a bar stool revolving 360 degrees while enjoying multiple of your favorite toddies and having a chat with one of the local bartenders in the Carousel Bar. The people watching can be good at times at it is certainly a must and quite possibly one of the main reasons I enjoy staying at the Monteleone.

The service at the Monteleone seems to be quite good. Front desk staff is courteous and valet service is speedy since their garage is on site.

I cannot comment on the restaurant in the Monteleone. We have our list of favorite restaurants that we visit every time we are in New Orleans and the hotel restaurant is obvioulsy not one of them. I have heard however that the food is good but its very difficult to find a bad restaurant (other than chain) in this city.

I hope this review helps if you are planning a trip to NOLA and want to stay in Quarter. Salute!! By the way the "Vieux Carre" famous coctail was invented by Carousel bartenders.

Dear captainTexas,

Thank you for this wonderful review and for choosing the Hotel Monteleone time and time again. We hope our new restaurant Criollo, opening in May of this year, can be added to your list of favorites. You must try it on your return to New Orleans.
