“Beautiful Place, But watch your charges, THEY DO NOT RETURN CALLS”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

The first thing I will say is that the hotel is beautiful. My room was a small corner room which I loved and it was on the 11th floor. The staff were very friendly and helpful. I had breakfast there only one time, the reason is that it was almost $20.00 and the eggs were old and nasty, in fact, I couldn't eat them. So I had a choice of soggy potatoes, yogurt, fresh fruit, and the normal breakfast things. I was disappointed to say the least as I was looking forward to something more than a limited breakfast buffet. The real issues started when I asked the front desk person to charge my personal CC for my last night and leave the rest on my AMEX. When I checked out Laura (very nice person) assisted me and put 1 night on my personal cc and the rest on my AMEX. GREAT! Not really, I checked my account this AM only to find I had been charged over $900!!! I called accounting at the hotel and talked to Brittany who said to "just wait a couple of days and it will be refunded". I personally don't have a spare $900 laying around so I told her that was unacceptable and said I would call my bank. She said call my bank and then call her back and conference her in. When I tried that her phone went to voice mail. That was about 8 hours ago and I have still not heard back from her. VERY FRUSTRATING!!!

“Favorite French Quarter hotel.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

Let me begin by saying that I love the Monteleone. Its a wonderful old hotel in the heart of the Quarter with a lot of history, and ,most importantly, it houses the Carousel Bar which is truly unique. With New Orleans being my wife's native city ( and me having lived there off/on for many years) we visit quite frequently and the Monteleone is always our first choice if we are staying in th Quarter. Yes, the Ritz, Roosevelt, and Windsor Court have nicer rooms but they are not in the French Quarter. The Monteleone is in an excellent location for eating (Mr. B's across the street) and strolling the decadent streets.

The rooms are small as they are in all the French Quarter hotels but have been remodeled in recent years and are clean and comfortable. The rooms that face Royal Street seem to be smaller than those that face the river. Not all that much to say about rooms, by New Orleans standards they are just fine and after all, I hope you are not visiting New Orleans (and staying in Quarter) to laze around a hotel room.

A stay at the Monteleone is not complete without spending a substantial time sitting on a bar stool revolving 360 degrees while enjoying multiple of your favorite toddies and having a chat with one of the local bartenders in the Carousel Bar. The people watching can be good at times at it is certainly a must and quite possibly one of the main reasons I enjoy staying at the Monteleone.

The service at the Monteleone seems to be quite good. Front desk staff is courteous and valet service is speedy since their garage is on site.

I cannot comment on the restaurant in the Monteleone. We have our list of favorite restaurants that we visit every time we are in New Orleans and the hotel restaurant is obvioulsy not one of them. I have heard however that the food is good but its very difficult to find a bad restaurant (other than chain) in this city.

I hope this review helps if you are planning a trip to NOLA and want to stay in Quarter. Salute!! By the way the "Vieux Carre" famous coctail was invented by Carousel bartenders.

Dear captainTexas,

Thank you for this wonderful review and for choosing the Hotel Monteleone time and time again. We hope our new restaurant Criollo, opening in May of this year, can be added to your list of favorites. You must try it on your return to New Orleans.

“Great location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 February 2012

This hotel is located on a nice street close to downtown, Bourbon St, the river and the stadium. My room looked at a wall, but it had a fridge and the bathroom was fine. The spa was very nice. Good workout room - small but enogh stuff and a great view. Breakfast buffet was very good, and while the restaurants weren't open for dinner you could get light snacks in the bar - very good and good people watching.

Room Tip: Ask for a view of something

“Historic boutique property a block off Bourbon St.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 February 2012

Stayed here for a 3 day business trip. The location is ideal for walking around, taking in the shops and galleries down Royal Street then going a block over for fun of Bourbon St. You are also a few minutes walk from the Central Business District. Also like that a Walgreen's is right across the street.

The property itself is a warm, intimate, elegant your typical historic boutique hotel. Nice lobby although you have to drag your luggage up a few stairs, no way around it. Cool Carousel Bar in the front that was recently renovated and constantly is turning. Staff is very helpful and friendly, no problems there. Free 24 hour fitness center. Lots of treadmills, a few bikes & ellipticals and a handful of machines. Adequate for sure. Always like apples to take with you. Nice small rooftop pool area, I think it is heated. Meeting and banquet spaces are fine, perfect for a group under 50 or so.

The basic rooms are small but fundamentally adequate, not unusual for an older property. I always love a large amount of bathroom counter space, but this did not have that. Weird that the morning I checked out the blow dryer had disappeared. Everything is clean and functions fine. I would stay here again and recommend as it was fairly priced, well located, clean and very functional.

“wonderful area, lovely lobby”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

We spent 3 nights at the Monteleone in a preferred double/double room. Room size was fine, bathroom updated. Other room furnishings were traditional...perhaps a little worn, but acceptable. My only real complain about room were the beds. They were small doubles and they wobbled! I felt they weren't good at all. Rooms were clean. Our view was not good, but we got by.
The lobby and carousel bar were wonderful...great entertainment and such a fun place to hang out. The location fantastic. So nice to be in the french quarter and in a clean, lovely and happening location. Lots of fun.
