On a recent trip to NOLA, we decided to stay in the Quarter and this place came up and the location is two blocks off Bourbon and you can almost hear the bells of the Saint Louis in Jackson Square. The staff was warm and pleasant. A cat named Oliver lives at the hotel and a little puppy comes to work with her owner. Sadly, this is where the charm ends. Our first room was a spartan room of two queen sized beds, a lamp on the table with a 1980's alarm clock, far away from the beds. The covers are aged and in need of replacing. The boxspring looked stained. The outlets for our phone chargers either did not hold the plugs in the wall or just did not work. One had a burn whole in it. The room, when entered, had an overwhelming smell of BO. The sink in the bathroom was rusted and had no stopper. The bathtub did not drain at a reasonable speed and the walls were gross. The floors were slimey and once we climbed in bed after a shower, the sheets were the source of the fowl odor! Lucky for us, the second bed was safe but we did have the odor in the air.
The next morning, we were polite and asked for another room and explained why. The desk was very friendly about this and upgraded us to a "suite". They also offered to bring up our bags to the new room. The new room was better, but still very bare. We had a living room with a mini-fridge, always a plus and a day bed and a sofa, along with a 16in flat screen tv over the day bed. The furniture looked very worn and aged, much like second hand store items. The bare brick walls added a be of delight and reminded us that the hotel is almost 200 years old. A nice short stair flight down in the hallway leads to the bathroom which was a slight improvement over the first. The sink and tubs were better but we had no towel rack and the towels were over used and sometimes not cleaned up to par. The bedroom was small and the king sized bed filled the room. The window a/c did not work, which was ok for the weekend we were there.
To conclude, this place reminded me of a hostel. Sadly, for our stay, the price we paid for the hotel stay was not worth it. If you like location and do not mind sleep in a questionable environment or you want some historical "charm", stay here. If you want to stay someplace that has post 1980s standards, do not stay here!
