“NOT GREAT... JUST OK”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 February 2012

Stayed at this hotel eleven days while attending a medical conference at the Sheraton. This hotel's rate, parking included, was about $100 less than the Sheraton. It was worth taking the trolley to Canal Street everyday.
Checked in early on a weekday, no problem. First impression of the room, very small, but it looked like it had been recently renovated, clean, definitely a good deal for the price, except that yes...we got that room by the ice machine, and the soda machine, the metal stairs in the back, and housekeeping, so the noise level was pretty high most of the time. I didn't have to set the alarm clock in the morning to go to the conference, because I was awakened everyday at 6am by the hotel staff getting ice from the ice machine to set up for breakfast, which by the way was very generic.
Housekeeping service was pretty good, room made on time, the shower head could have used some cleaning or probably needed to be replaced.
Free and ample parking, spaces available at all hours. Kind of worried after seeing the cops parked in the lot, found out that one of the guest's car had been vandalized. There is a security guard on the premises at night, we saw him many times sitting at one of the tables in the courtyard with his laptop open for hours.
Towards the end of the stay, spent one sleepless night, the room on top of ours was occupied by a couple with two small kids, as soon as they checked in it felt as they were bouncing off the walls, later found out that this room is one of the lofts with the stairs and the kids spent the whole night jumping off the stairs unto the wooden floor, it took several calls to the front desk for them to quiet down for a little while. Next day we requested we needed to change rooms and were told that they were checking out that day, they did.
All in all, if you can put up with the noise, this hotel is not a bad deal for the price. Would we stay there again? Probably not.

Room Tip: Get a room away from the stairs, ice machine, soda machine and housekeeping headquarters.

I am very sorry they did not enjoy their stay, however, they needed a room with 2 beds, and did not want to spend over $100 per night, including taxes as they were on a tight budget. When they checked in, they did ask about the noise level as they were light sleepers, as it was explained them the room type they booked, we only had 2 rooms in that configuration, and both located on the ground floor, right next to the ice machine and coke machine, and that it is across the walkway from the staircase that leads to the 2nd floor. From pictures that are posted on the web site and many review sites, guests can see we are a Courtyard style hotel with 2 floors. We do not have an elevator, as we did not see the need for it when the design of the property was not calling for one, we put in 2 double wide metal staircases that lends itself more to the courtyard atmosphere . We offered to move them to the upper floor where we have a room type with multiple beds, but it costs a bit more than they wanted to spend, and they declined.

Yes, we did have a car vandalized. The 1st time since 2003 and we have not had any problems since then either. It was very unfortunate, however, the guest had left a pair of bicyles in the back of the Club Van, in plain sight instead of asking us to lock up for the week. Although we have Security staff, they can not be in all places at the same time, and his claim about him sitting in the courtyard on a laptop for hours? I don’t think so, or he would not have a job.

We took immediate action to get notice to the guests on the cruise so he can contact his insurance company. We immediately covered the broken out window to protect it from rain, and moved forward to get the repairs underway.

Breakfast is an Expanded Continental breakfast, more of a get me going nosh, not a full hot meal that will carry you to lunch at 1 pm. We have about 8 different items on the buffet to choose from, plus coffee, juice and/or tea. The items being, varity of Danish, Cin. Raisin Bread for toasting, Plain and Whole Wheat bagels w/cream cheese , variety of jams/jellies, butter pats, also Grit and Oatmeal packets you make with Hot water, 2 cereals (Raisin Bran and Honey Nut Cheerio’s), and then there is Yoplait yogurt, and Activa yogurt. If this is generic, I am sorry, but most guests do not come to New Orleans to eat at a hotel, they go to Café Du Monde for Beignets or to any number of restaurants in our area that specialize in Breakfast.

I do wish him the best of travels in the future and hope he finds the perfect hotel given his budgetary needs and noise level restrictions. I am sorry we could not make him comfortable.

“Love the FREE, lighted parking lot!”

We have stayed at Prytania Park twice now (2009 and 2011) and have recommended it to many friends. It is so well located with the trolley 1/2 a block away (ride it to the Garden District or the French Quarter) and the French Quarter walkable in 20 or 30 minutes. Other places charge SO MUCH to keep your car and some charge every time you enter their lot! The staff at PP has been courteous and very helpful ... we never asked for anything without being satisfied. It is charming, convenient and modest...but how much time do you want to spend in your room when you're in New Orleans!??

Room Tip: Downstairs in the quaint section, you have wifi connection included in the rate.

“Old World Charm in New Orleans”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 January 2012

We recently traveled from California to Pensacola, Florida by way of New Orleans... Southwest doesn't fly into Pensacola, Mobile, or Gulfport. In any case, it was a day of travel, and I knew I wouldn't be up to the almost four-hour drive upon arrival. I checked TripAdvisor to see what the best option would be for my family for a one-night stay in New Orleans. I settled on the Prytania Park Hotel, which turned out to be perfect! I loved the charm and character of the old world home away from home; seemed almost Victorian, what with the dark wood doors and floors. Our room was on the second floor and came furnished with a queen bed, armoire, dresser, television, refrigerator, microwave, and to top it off, a loft with two twin beds and a dresser. Having two young adult children makes finding the perfect hotel a little difficult when we all travel together, but I must say this place was perfect. Free wi-fi was available and a continental breakfast was served. The free parking makes this hotel almost too good to be true. One block to the St. Charles Street Car stop, which takes you right into the French quarter, the stop also happens to be right in front of the Voodoo BBQ - check out their reviews, the food was awesome! I imagine we'll be back - hopefully for a little longer stay so we can enjoy the magic that is New Orleans.

Dear Guest,
I want to take a moment to Thank You for writing your review. With all the traveling and keeping up with the kids, I remember when you checked in and how tired you were from the day's travel. I appreciate knowing we were able to make your brief time in New Orleans, and with the Prytania Park a memorable stay. The beginning of your vacation started out to be wonderful, and I am sure the rest of it on the Florida Gulf Coast was too. Have a safe trip home, and see you next time you are in our area. Your room awaits your return.

Fondly,
Dori

“Great hotel for the price!”

Loved this hotel, it was an awesome deal! My kids 6&7, loved loft style sleeping area and fought over who got to sleep up there. Great convenience to the convention center and French quarter. I will definitely stay here again if we had to venture this way. We were here for a cheer competition so it was a great value for us. If u stay here make the walk to Surrey's Juice Bar, awesome food and fresh juices!

Clap, Clap, High V- CheerMom, Go, Fight, Win!!!..... Thank you for finding time between competitions to write to us. I know how busy you are, as I too have had cheerleading daughters. The loft room is very unique and so I can definitely understand how you stated they fought as to who was going to sleep upstairs. It does make for a nicer stay when ever you have some separation from the kids and you are still in the same room. Keep the Pom-Pons ready for a return trip to New Orleans, as their is another competition here in March. We hope to see you then.

Fondly,
Dori

“Not terrible, but not great either”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 January 2012

We stayed for 4 nights over the new year period at an expensive rate (fair enough, it was over new year and other hotels were the same price). At check in, the guy we spoke to seemed distracted by a taxi outside and although he wasn't rude, he failed to give us any information about breakfast, how to get to our room, and even (after we asked) gave us directions to a lift which doesn't exist.

The room was reasonable, with a second bed reached by climbing a tight spiral metal staircase. The bathroom was tiny, and it was difficult to close the door when using the toilet.

Location is pretty good, there's a short walk to a selection of bars and restaurants on St. Charles Street, or you can catch the streetcar which takes you directly to the French Quarter. We also walked to the French Quarter and back a couple of times and it was fine.

"Breakfast" was a bit of a joke, there's no designated room for breakfast so there's just a table set up outside with coffee, some cereals and some pastries. It was cold, so we had to take stuff back to our room although the selection was so bad that we had to have a second breakfast elsewhere anyway.

I am truly sorry they did not completely enjoy their stay. Most European's find the hotel quite charming, as it reminds them of days gone by back home. The distraction of the cab was unfortnate, as there were 2 grps of guests fighting over who's cab it was. It was New Years weekend, need I say more? We would never intentionally ignore our guests or giving out important details. He apologized to them, but it did not seem to matter.

Being in an "historic" district, we were barred from putting in a "lift" (elevator), as the housing for it would have to stand above the roof life and that is not allowed. We show pictures of the courtyard in various web sites, but with a 2 story courtyard hotel, one must not just assume there is an elevator. If a guest needs help getting his luggage up, we have personel to lend a hand. Typically, we ask if we see alot of luggage, or if its someone clearly obvious that might not be able to handle the stairs. This was not the case.

The loft style rooms are very unique, and all websites show the spiral staircase that one must climb. We did make the shower/commode area smaller, but the sink/vanity dressing area much larger than the standard, which is usually more important to a guest, with its spansive natural Italian Travertine marble top and triple wide mirrors.

On our Contemporary side, (80% of rooms), are modeled after a small courtyard in, where breakfast is served in the courtyard with trays to carry back to your room. We do have seating for those who wish to sit around the courtyard, but in winter, it does present a challenge. It is a 'continental" breakfast with some additions to the menu. We just recently purchased the adjacent property, that we have planned to make a breakfast room that will serve a hot breakfast. This project won't be complete for a while as we must go through re-construction with it.

Thank you,
