“Definitely a Convention Hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012

Great location - close to Bourbon Street.
Service was spotty. Bell staff was great, everyone else - from the General Manager to the front desk staff to the restaurant staff didn't seem to care about my needs at all.

Attended a convention and while staffing a trade show booth all day, called to obtain an internet connection to do email while there were slow times during the day. Was told that the cost would be $250 per day. I was paying $14.95 in my room per day. I spoke to the AV staff, couldn't help me, spoke to a banquet captain who promised to assist me with the high price - never heard back from him - called the general manager - in three days never heard back from him and I identified myself as a guest.

Shipped boxed there in advance - were held in a Fedex office in the hotel, had to pay $40.00 just to receive my boxes!

This hotel has a unique elevator system where you enter the number of the floor and the elevator that will pick you up is identified by a letter (A-J). Very confusing at first, very efficient after a few uses.

Room was tiny. Hardly enough room for a room service tray. Looked out on garbage and air conditioners on the roof tops that were one floor below my room. Definitely ask for a room on a high floor if you want a view.

Overall a very mediocre hotel.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the higher levels!

“Location great but the hotel isn't.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

On the edge of the French Quarter, this hotel is a typical Marriott, which I guess means no in-room safe, no mini-fridge and not much maid service. It's very noisy but typical for the French Quarter. I heard every passing band, siren, argument, and slamming door. I did find the staff extremely helpful, particularly the Concierge and the front desk. Room service was very good. But overall, the negatives outweighed the positives.

Room Tip: Get one that doesn't face Canal Street.

“Marriott -- plastic glasses?!?!?”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

Were there for a convention with a negotiated rate ($199), which was still a bit high. Decent location (on the edge of the French Quarter), but the hotel itself was so-so. And really -- the only glasses in the room were plastic -- no glass at all (except thru room service). Completely undistinguished hotel, in all respects. (Extra irritant: room wasn't ready for check-in at 13:30, so they took my cellphone to call me when it *WAS* ready -- no call by 16:00, so went back and -- surprise! -- they had a room ready.)

Room Tip: If you don't need to be in the Quarter, and can afford a bit more -- go to the Windsor Court...

“Short but Sweet Stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 February 2012

We stayed in the New Orleans Marriot the night before we embarked on a 7-day Carribean cruise. In fact, we booked the hotel through Royal Carribean. We arrived in New Orleans at about 10:30 AM and got to the hotel expecting to ask them if they could store our bags until check. We were pleasently suprised, however, to learn our room was ready for us to check-in and staff handed us our key card. Having our room ready allowed my wife and I to go up, put our bags away, and change so that we could go explore the French Quarter, Garden District, and Riverwalk. The hotel's location and proximity to these New Orleans landmarks is among the Marriot New Orlean's greatest strengths among many great qualities. If you want to be near these areas and/or the Central Business District, Convention Center, and Superdome, this is the hotel for you. The hotel is also close to the St. Charles Streetcars station, whcih you can board economically and go all over the French Quarter and Garden District

Some other strong features and qualities include:
Great views from the south and west sides of the hotel overlooking downtown and the river.

Unique elevator system that allows you to punch in your floor number and it assigning you an elevator car. It's almost like having your own personnal elevator. We never shared our elevator with anyone else in the many times we went up and down.

The hotel boasts a lively lobby area with a bar and several big screens and ample seating. Good place to meet people and relax and have a drink.

The hotel contains a Starbucks and store with several supplies and sundries. There is also a restaurant, which we did not use. There are many other restaurants in the area and a CVS drugstore close by in case you forgot something critical.

The workout room was good with several treadmills, elipticals, as well as some weight machines. You will be able to get a good workout.

The hotel has several of the standard cable channels if you want to watch TV.

The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Everyone from the front desk staff to the concierge, housekeeping, and store/bar staff were all very nice and truly made us feel at home. The staff was especially helpful in making sure we knew when our cruise ship rep would pick us up and when we needed to have our bags at the bell captain desk.

We did not use the pools but walked out to the pool area. The area is quite spacious with two pools and a large area with lounge chairs. I would have definately been out there if our stay was longer.

Overall the hotel was very clean and well stocked with soaps, shampoo, and clean towels. The bed was extremely comfortable and I slept like a rock, which is rare for me in even the most luxurious hotel. The rooms contained ample outlets to plug in your various devices.

Even though we were there for only 24 hours, I felt that I got a good feel for the hotel and I will definately stay here again when and if I am ever in New Orleans, which I hope will be soon.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a southern or western frontage, which will afford you the best views and one on...

“Great location; superb service--a wonderful three-day stay!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 February 2012

I stayed at the Marriott for a company meeting last week and can't say enough about this hotel--and I'm not an easy customer. I must start with the best part--the staff. From the banquet and event staff to the bell captain, and from the front desk to the contracted technical support staff, everyone was exceedingly helpful and courteous and went above and beyond to assist. They were warm and accommodating and made the event and our stay as smooth and comfortable as possible.

The location is excellent, in the heart of the French Quarter. It made entertaining a large group almost effortless -- just walk to any of the restaurants, bars, casinos and other attractions without the hassle of taxis or other transportation.

The food was excellent, as well, and the wait staff in the banquet rooms and restaurants were quick and attentive.

The rooms are more than adequate. Mine had two double beds and was a tad small, but clean and well appointed with nice linens and the usual accoutrements. The only (minor) complaint: the room would benefit from at least one more outlet (I was able to find available outlets only on the base of a lamp).

I would highly recommend this notel for any kind of trip to New Orleans, business or pleasure. A wonderful hotel in a great location that stands out for its people, who were a highlight of the stay.

Bravo!
