We stayed in the New Orleans Marriot the night before we embarked on a 7-day Carribean cruise. In fact, we booked the hotel through Royal Carribean. We arrived in New Orleans at about 10:30 AM and got to the hotel expecting to ask them if they could store our bags until check. We were pleasently suprised, however, to learn our room was ready for us to check-in and staff handed us our key card. Having our room ready allowed my wife and I to go up, put our bags away, and change so that we could go explore the French Quarter, Garden District, and Riverwalk. The hotel's location and proximity to these New Orleans landmarks is among the Marriot New Orlean's greatest strengths among many great qualities. If you want to be near these areas and/or the Central Business District, Convention Center, and Superdome, this is the hotel for you. The hotel is also close to the St. Charles Streetcars station, whcih you can board economically and go all over the French Quarter and Garden District
Some other strong features and qualities include:
Great views from the south and west sides of the hotel overlooking downtown and the river.
Unique elevator system that allows you to punch in your floor number and it assigning you an elevator car. It's almost like having your own personnal elevator. We never shared our elevator with anyone else in the many times we went up and down.
The hotel boasts a lively lobby area with a bar and several big screens and ample seating. Good place to meet people and relax and have a drink.
The hotel contains a Starbucks and store with several supplies and sundries. There is also a restaurant, which we did not use. There are many other restaurants in the area and a CVS drugstore close by in case you forgot something critical.
The workout room was good with several treadmills, elipticals, as well as some weight machines. You will be able to get a good workout.
The hotel has several of the standard cable channels if you want to watch TV.
The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Everyone from the front desk staff to the concierge, housekeeping, and store/bar staff were all very nice and truly made us feel at home. The staff was especially helpful in making sure we knew when our cruise ship rep would pick us up and when we needed to have our bags at the bell captain desk.
We did not use the pools but walked out to the pool area. The area is quite spacious with two pools and a large area with lounge chairs. I would have definately been out there if our stay was longer.
Overall the hotel was very clean and well stocked with soaps, shampoo, and clean towels. The bed was extremely comfortable and I slept like a rock, which is rare for me in even the most luxurious hotel. The rooms contained ample outlets to plug in your various devices.
Even though we were there for only 24 hours, I felt that I got a good feel for the hotel and I will definately stay here again when and if I am ever in New Orleans, which I hope will be soon.
Room Tip: Ask for a room with a southern or western frontage, which will afford you the best views and one on...
