“Great location in New Orleans”

We stayed at the Lamothe House Hotel in the middle of September 2011 ... our second time at the property. Being slightly off-season, we could have our choice of mega hotels in the French Quarter but prefer the LHH because of its location (edge of the French Quarter, but near the very interesting Frenchmen St.). The pool is the crowning jewel, with quick access to variety stores to stock up on fluids. The rooms are historic but clean, and the bathrooms are generally tiny. The LHH will give you a full-tilt 19th century NOLA experience with prices to match (very reasonable).

Room Tip: I believe they can assign you to their other properties (the Frenchmen Hotel) so be specific. Rooms...

“Authentic new orleans”

My husband and I have stayed here several times over the last five years.
If it is a generic clean and squeaky hotel you are are looking for, than the Lamothe house is not for you. If it is historical feel of old New Orleans with a great location than for the price it cannot be beat.
Yes there could be a plumbing or heat issue, but just mention it to the helpful staff and they will come right away to attend to the problem.
All the rooms we have stayed in are furnished with antique furniture, painted period colors. Some nosier than others so you may want to inquire when making a reservation if that is your concern.
The location can not be beat just on the other side of Esplanade Avenue from the French quarter, great restaurants, coffee shops, and a two minute walk from Frenchmen Street music venues which comes in very handy late nights! Enjoy!

We are delighted you and your husband continue to stay at the Lamothe House Hotel. We do our best to prevent the occasional heating or plumbing issue that takes place in our nineteenth century building, and respond as promptly as possible to fix any problems that arise. We look forward to your next visit with us!

“Tired and run down”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 December 2011 via mobile

The only good thing about this hotel is the location and that's about it. Yes I get that it's old but that doesn't mean it is ok to let the hotel get run down and dirty.
As soon as we walked in we were struck by the overpowering old musty smell. There was no reception desk and no sign as to where we were supposed to go to check in which didn't help.
The carpet going up the staircase filthy as was most of the carpet actually.
Our hot water in our room broke down on the first day then the drain in our shower was so full of crap it blocked up every time we used the shower. The bathroom was old and had rust stains!
The room had had hardly any natural light and zero ventilation.
The walls were so paper thin we had to sleep with ear plugs. Enough said.
Given the number of poor reviews of this place and lack of action by management it's obvious they need to be moved on.

I am sorry you were not satisfied with your recent stay at the Lamothe House. Our building is going on it's 180th birthday which means we work even harder to ensure cleanliness of our public areas and guest rooms alike. We do experience the occassional plumbing issue and our maintenance team promptly acts on any issue that arises.

We are under new management and have ongoing room renovation projects, including bathroom upgrades. We take guests' feedback very seriously and will continue to do our best to resolve any negative experiences.

“Great place to stay!”

Lamothe House is not the same old average hotel. This place has a lot of character- more so than some other hotels in New Orleans may claim. My fiance and I stayed here last year and really dug it. We like to walk around New Orleans and Lamothe House was super close to some of the best fried chicken I've ever eaten (Coops!), the French Quarter, and not to too far away from the Marigny either. We'll definitely be back!

“Yikes!! Ghosts!!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 October 2011

We stayed at the Lamothe House last year during Jazzfest. My Son-in-law booked a suite in the carriage house on line. We arrived about sundown after a full day at Fest and were ready for a shower and nice bed after staying all day in the sun at Jazzfest. My wife and I stayed in the back bedroom in twin beds and my daughter, son-in-law and 3 year old grand daughter stayed in the main bedroom in a king sized bed.
At about 5AM I heard my wife's bed creak and thought I saw her get up and get dressed in the south corner of the bedroom. I thought it was odd to be up so early, but turned over and went back to sleep. I awoke again about 7:30. I commented to my wife about her odd behavior so early in the morning. She said,"I just got up and dressed in the north corner of the bedroom, not the south corner." I didn't think much about it and we went to the main house for breakfast. When we had finished, we met our kids in the courtyard sitting on the patio. I commented about the odd happenings early in the morning and I couldn't explain what I had seen. I told them the story and they both had the strangest look on their faces. When our 3 year old grand daughter had awakened she asked her mom,"Mommy, who was that little girl in our room last night." We did not have any previous knowledge of ghosts at Lamothe House nor do I believe in ghosts or any para normal activity, but it definitely shook all of us up. My grand daughter was only 3 and had no idea what ghosts are. When we returned home I looked up Lamothe House on the internet and discovered the place was haunted by a mother and a small child or children. I read this review to my wife and she still gets chills when reminded of the stay. She says, "We won't be back."
