I have stayed at this hotel 2 xs before, Pre and Post Katrina on business. When I find a boutique hotel I like, I try to return with business. The big boxes do not need my business especially in an area that attracts many conventions. I am an Expedia Elite Plus user-for whatever that is worth, and this hotel is marked as VIP access, so I thought it would be a bonus. Since I was on holiday, I was not in a hurry…so the saga begins. At check-in I was met with the comments “you made your reservation through a third party provider, you have a king bed room without a view. If you want to upgrade it is $20.00 per night” at this point I told them about their affiliation with Expedia. “We know nothing about that”. I asked if they could call Expedia and see what they are advertising and I would store my luggage and return later when the front desk was not busy. Expedia called me 2 xs to try to resolve the issue. Since I am from upstate New York-in January- windows that open or a balcony are a must have. I did get an upgrade to a room with a balcony -320. It was the smallest room that I have had at this hotel and not in very good shape. There was mold on the ceiling of the bathroom, the head of the bed abutted the stairwell with metal treads, so I heard people running up and down it wall night. So I believe my Expedia VIP affiliation got me 2 glasses of house wine.
One of the reasons I like (liked) this hotel was because it has a pool and hot tub. The hot tub was out of order and the pool was an obstacle construction site to enter. Now I could have called before I made reservations to see if they were operable, but I didn’t. I know repairs have to be done, and it was my fault for not checking.
Now the good things were the guy playing guitar in the bistro-excellent for someone young and Marvin the car/bag attendant was funny and attentive. Coffee in the lobby is very good. Fortunately there are many boutique hotel options in the French Quarter that I will have the opportunity to explore in the future.
