I stayed in this hotel with a large group of people from all over the world, for a week of meetings, and we had a difficult experience due to the extensive construction work going on. We actually felt we should have been given hard hats, as our rooms became more and more inaccessible as the week went by and as the construction extended down the various hallways, where plastic was lining the floors and draped from the ceilings. I understand it is closing right after Mardi Gras, until May, as the construction continues. So I guess we were among the last guests to stay here (in mid-Jan). Rooms are large, and some look out on (noisy) streets (hotel is just off Bourbon street in busy French Quarter) which means no sleep (especially as the noise is compounded by trash trucks that arrive at 4AM and begin their loud dumping and crunching noise); other rooms (much preferred) look out on inner courtyards (one which has nice-looking pool area); and other rooms inexplicably have windows looking at an indoor messy area full of construction debris and stacked mattresses. (Many of us who requested quiet rooms were put in these kinds of rooms but moved as they are very depressing). After 1 night of no sleep, I tried 3-4 other rooms before finally settling on one for the rest of the week. The staff were (for the most part) very nice and accommodating (and apologetic), and the place is in a great location and could be very nice (maybe after the construction). Beds are comfortable, internet works, coffee makers are provided in the room. Strangely, I had to wait a long time for any hot water in my bathroom, and one day had none at all. The bar is very pleasant (with a friendly and attentive bartender), breakfast was rather under-whelming but OK. The gym was tiny, with very old machines, but useful for the 2 days that I had it. Then, without notice it was cleared out and not replaced, when construction started on that part of the hotel. This hotel was probably grand in its day, and is sorely in need of these renovations, but they probably should not have people staying there until they get the construction finished.
