“A bit tired and a mess during construction!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012

I stayed in this hotel with a large group of people from all over the world, for a week of meetings, and we had a difficult experience due to the extensive construction work going on. We actually felt we should have been given hard hats, as our rooms became more and more inaccessible as the week went by and as the construction extended down the various hallways, where plastic was lining the floors and draped from the ceilings. I understand it is closing right after Mardi Gras, until May, as the construction continues. So I guess we were among the last guests to stay here (in mid-Jan). Rooms are large, and some look out on (noisy) streets (hotel is just off Bourbon street in busy French Quarter) which means no sleep (especially as the noise is compounded by trash trucks that arrive at 4AM and begin their loud dumping and crunching noise); other rooms (much preferred) look out on inner courtyards (one which has nice-looking pool area); and other rooms inexplicably have windows looking at an indoor messy area full of construction debris and stacked mattresses. (Many of us who requested quiet rooms were put in these kinds of rooms but moved as they are very depressing). After 1 night of no sleep, I tried 3-4 other rooms before finally settling on one for the rest of the week. The staff were (for the most part) very nice and accommodating (and apologetic), and the place is in a great location and could be very nice (maybe after the construction). Beds are comfortable, internet works, coffee makers are provided in the room. Strangely, I had to wait a long time for any hot water in my bathroom, and one day had none at all. The bar is very pleasant (with a friendly and attentive bartender), breakfast was rather under-whelming but OK. The gym was tiny, with very old machines, but useful for the 2 days that I had it. Then, without notice it was cleared out and not replaced, when construction started on that part of the hotel. This hotel was probably grand in its day, and is sorely in need of these renovations, but they probably should not have people staying there until they get the construction finished.

Room Tip: Get room looking onto inner courtyard areas to avoid street noise and to get natural light

“good hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

the location could not be better. half a block from bourbon st and a block off canal street. so everything right to hand , but without the craziness. the biggest non suite bedroom i have seen, and with a huge comfortable bed, great workdesk and chair, plus a sofa and sitting area. outlook to quiet courtyard as requested. decent free wifi, acces to pool and gym facility in house. very pleasant bar with good staff. did not use the hotel restaurant, but it looked good too. the style was a little dated, with old fashioned furniture and dark colours, but i would certainly recommend for fellow first-timers, and would go back again anytime. for the price paid in central nola, it would be hard to beat.

“Great location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012

We spent 3 nights at this hotel and loved it. It is on Bourbon St and within an easy walk of all the famous bars and restaurants. The rooms are large and have balconies. Would recommend an interior room or room on the side opposite Bourbon St, as it can get very noisy on Bourbon at night. The hotel has a good restaurant, though we never ate there.

Room Tip: Choose rooms away from Bourbon St to get a good night's sleep.

“Construction Woes Continue”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012

The rooms are currently very spartan. Inadequate lighting and mirrors, unpredictable water, ugly. Not enough towels, towel bars or supplies. Ridiculously loud HVAC system. The shared facilities are even worse. No exercise facility, pool, restaurant, gift shop, or vending machines. Loud noises emanating from the unfinished courtyard, bad views, and balconies shared with strangers who used it as an ashtray. We requested rooms close together with the rest of our party months in advance and our request was ignored.

The redfish grill is pleasant and attached through an unfinished hallway; the waiter told us it's unaffiliated.

The staff who are there are pleasant, but it seems there aren't enough of them and they aren't kept informed. Also, the beds and linens are fine.

The location is good if you want to be close to Bourbon and Canal. The streets are very clogged with construction also, however, so between the hotel and the area you begin to feel there is no respite.

The prices for rooms, parking and extras are much too high for the current quality.

Room Tip: Wait several months.

“Disappointed due to construction”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 February 2012

people found this review helpful

I was referred by a friend to stay at this hotel, at the time of the booking I was not told about the construction that would be going on. This was a disappointment, I booked the room months before my trip and asked for balcony. When I arrived I did get the balony room but found the balcony was closed off due to construction. We were right next to the construction dumpster which was emptied at 2:30 am. The workers started very early as well, we could not sleep. The water was hardly working and the hotel was is in full construction mode. The pool and courtyard were closed along with other ammenties. This was not an inexpensive hotel and would have expected more. I did think the hotel was clean, great location and very helpful/friendly staff. I am sure once the construction is done it will be beautiful. I would love to come back but think that the hotel chain should give all their unhappy guests some form of monetary refund. Thank you Patty G
