A friend booked this hotel pre-cruise and after reading the reviews I was terrified! Well, it was for naught... this is a lovely motel, perfectly located in the French Quarter. We walked to Bourbon Street, shopping, Harrah's casino, the pier and cruise lines.. they were all within a couple of blocks.
The staff was very friendly and professional. The elevator worked fine, everything was clean, I felt safe at all times and was grateful for the little shampoo/conditioner etc. as mine was packed for the cruise so I didn't have to dig it out.
There is, in my opinion, the best praline shop/candy maker just down half a block. The hotel is right off Canal Street, which is a main thoroughfare. Cafe du Monde is right down the street and the coffee and beignets were wonderful, as always.
We pulled our suitcases down to the pier in the morning and enjoyed the riverwalk area before boarding the cruise ship. It's about a 10 minute walk to the water from the hotel. Harrah's casino is about a 5 minute walk from the hotel and on the way to the pier.
I would recommend this hotel for its character. It's an 1800's building that is kept clean. Attached is an updated bar but we didn't go in. If you're looking for a place to hang out in.. you may not like it here... it's basically for sleeping. We have no complaints and would stay here any time we're in New Orleans!
