“Lovely character hotel in the French Quarter”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

A friend booked this hotel pre-cruise and after reading the reviews I was terrified! Well, it was for naught... this is a lovely motel, perfectly located in the French Quarter. We walked to Bourbon Street, shopping, Harrah's casino, the pier and cruise lines.. they were all within a couple of blocks.

The staff was very friendly and professional. The elevator worked fine, everything was clean, I felt safe at all times and was grateful for the little shampoo/conditioner etc. as mine was packed for the cruise so I didn't have to dig it out.

There is, in my opinion, the best praline shop/candy maker just down half a block. The hotel is right off Canal Street, which is a main thoroughfare. Cafe du Monde is right down the street and the coffee and beignets were wonderful, as always.

We pulled our suitcases down to the pier in the morning and enjoyed the riverwalk area before boarding the cruise ship. It's about a 10 minute walk to the water from the hotel. Harrah's casino is about a 5 minute walk from the hotel and on the way to the pier.

I would recommend this hotel for its character. It's an 1800's building that is kept clean. Attached is an updated bar but we didn't go in. If you're looking for a place to hang out in.. you may not like it here... it's basically for sleeping. We have no complaints and would stay here any time we're in New Orleans!

Room Tip: We were on the 3rd floor, the streets are so narrow, we couldn't really see down to the street b...

“in all fairness....”

i read earlier reviews of this hotel, and decided to stay there anyway.....it's a short walk away from cafe du monde and located just 1/2 block off of canal street.....everyone who worked at the front desk was helpful and very friendly! even at 6am......but, it's NOT a hotel i would stay at if i was traveling alone with all my camera and computer equipment that i normally travel with... the room was very dim and smelled of day old grease.....the water pressure in the shower was minimal, BUT: the hot was was hot enough for me to make my instant coffee every morning! towels were clean and not thin......you have to make your own choice: cheap and fine for a night, or pay more and get more.....

Room Tip: ask for any floor above the second floor or you will hear the sound of the bar below....

“Just the basics”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 January 2012

This is a great place to be really close to quarter without any bells or whistles the name is misleading you would think its some posh place but its just a place to get in and out. I think its a little over priced especially since there are nicer places. And they don't have a parking garage. If you can try and stay as high as possible the outside noise can keep you up at night.

“Just a place to crash”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 December 2011
2
people found this review helpful

Let me just start off by saying if you are just looking for a place to crash, this is fine. My husband and I only paid $90 for a Friday night which is cheap for the French Quarter. It was close to all of the bars we went to and the room served it's purpose. The room was dusty and the bathroom light fixture was covered in dust and had only 1 out of 3 lights working. The traffic was loud which is to be expected for this area. I would reccommend staying at the Holiday Inn or Westin. This is our first and last time here.
