“Good Full Service Marriott”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

The hotel meets, and in some areas exceeds, the standards I have come to expect as a frequent traveler of Marriott properties. The location is ideal for conferences at the convention center across the street, and is a short walk from the River Walk area and other more centrally located, larger hotels. Early check-in request was honored at 11 AM and staff were polite, efficient, and well trained. The concierge lounge ranks as one of the better ones I have encountered in the system. It is a little small and tucked away in a corner on the 3rd floor with no view, but had a better than usual spread of food and staffed with always friendly and knowledgeable associates who double as concierges, not just attendants. Room was standard, clean, quiet and comfortable. Views not as desirable as received from the high rise hotels of downtown. Internet connection was wired or wireless, dependable, and of decent speed, a must for any business traveler. Gym was also very nice with new equipment and personal TV's in the machines.

“Roach Motel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 January 2012

We requested a room on the upper floors but got a 3rd floor room with Roaches!! The hot tub/spa area is tiny and outdoors but the flooring around the hot tub is warped, has splinters and falling apart. It was dirty when we arrived so we requested they clean the pool area. We waited two days before attempting the hot tub/pool and ended up with Chemical burns, bleached out swimsuits and green hair. There was construction going on across the street and they were tearing down part of the convention center. The Bell Boys were whistling for cabs at all hours of the night. The only decent thing about the place is the beds are comfortable, but who can sleep knowing that when you pick up your towels 4 roaches scatter like rain drops down the rain gutter. They did move us up to the sixth floor and comp us 4 days out of our 7 days and paid for our swimsuits and the 1 roomie who had to visit the ER, they did pay for her medical care while there. The staff was sticky sweet after that and it did not seem sincere it was more of "Dont sue us" The other two people in the room might as well have been one of the roaches staying there because they were completely ignored. Room service is crazy expensive, no microwaves, or refrigerators in the rooms and the excuse is "we are a full service hotel" I have stayed at several marriott's and they've all been 100% better than this one and have included room safe's as well as a refrigerator. Transportation was not near by, and Bourbon street is about a 12 block distance. Everything there was pretty expensive and I gotta say, one of the most miserable trips I've ever taken. I will not be returning to this Roach Motel ever! Save your money and go a couple of blocks down to the W or to the Hilton Riverside. The trolly stops right next to the Hilton and is only 1.25 to ride it and get to visit the French Quarter shops. Because of the construction, there was not a trolly stop by the Marriott.
For being a loyal fan of Marriott's I was sorely disappointed!

Room Tip: Higher Floors have less Bugs, Try to get a room away from the convention center side.

“Great for a pre cruise stay”

Great hotel. Very nice staff. Rooms attractive and clean. Cruise terminal and Riverside Market right across the street.
It is not in the French Quarter. You have to walk a fair bit to get there.
This was a great hotel. Attractive and very clean. We may have preferred to be in the French Quarter. However, this hotel was quiet and right across from the Riverside Market and the Cruise Terminal. We were able to walk with our bags right to the ship. No taxi needed. You must eat at Mulates. Just a short stroll down the street, very close. The best food!!!!!! My husband had the alligator and loved it. I had the best seafood pasta ever. Loaded with seafood. Huge portions.

Room Tip: We asked for a view of the river to see the cruise ships. We were given this. However, the convent...

“Bad food...Bad TV”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 January 2012

Let me get the good stuff outta the way: clean, comfy bed, quiet, scrubby towels.

Here are the problems:

Breakfast: Don't have room service for an omelette....it will be over cooked. You MUST go to the restaurant and tell them that you expect over cooked....then they will watch the cooking and give you an good one. I LOVE room service....so this is a big bummer.

Restaurant: I went to the restaurant 3 time for breakfast because of the over cooked omelettes. One time I had to get my own flatware and ask for creamer. Another time I asked to order off the menu and the waitress tried to argued price comparisons between the menu and buffet to try to convince me to use the buffet. I had to ask for the check & ask for creamer. The wait staff were pleasant....when you could get their attention. So....sub-par room service or sub-par service in the restaurant...... take your pick.

Television: I travel a lot so I watch hotel TV. The channel selection is so limited I had to watch a movie on my netbook. Usually I can find HGTV, Biography, Comedy or a Movie channel. NOT here....it feels like you are being pushed to watch the "paid" channels. What's next.....a TV that you have to put quarters in to play anything interesting???

Housekeeping: First of all, the whole room is very clean period.
My issue is that when they came in, they put everything of their's back into the position it was in when I walked into the room. I ended up putting the do not disturb sign on the handle to keep them out. Usually, when I move a menu card near the phone or move an advertisement to a drawer it stays where I put it until I leave....not here and its irritating to have to be confronted with rearranging every time I come back to the room.

There's only one corner "convenience" store and it has mostly wine or beads. No gift shop...what they call their gift shop is really a room where you can get sodas and packs of aspirin. The 2 gift shops at the Riverwalk Hilton are stellar and better located to the French Quarter.

Previously I have stayed at the Weston, the Ritz and an old hotel in the French Q...sorry I can't remember the name....but they were all much better than this considering they were all also clean and quiet.

This boils down to a less than perfect convention center hotel.

Room Tip: No view of city or river. My room looked out to the other side of the hotel.

“Overall good experience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 January 2012

I stayed with the media for the BCS National Championship (college football) Game this past week. Overall, I was very pleased with the stay. The hotel is clean and efficient. The rooms were nothing spectacular, but defeinitely provided plenty of room and work space. The hotel staff were generally pleasant (ironically, the bellhops and cleaning staff were great, and the check-in staff and management were the ones that were a little more mediocre). The views were not great (had two different rooms during the week and one had about as good of a city view as the hotel provided on the 12th floor and it was nothing worth mentioning). The location was convenient for what I neede (immediately adjacent to the convention center and River Walk, close proximity to Harrah's and the lower end of the French Quarter, and within fairly easy walking distance of the Superdome... also there is a great taxi cab stand directly across Convention Center Boulevard from the hotel, so catching a cab was always easy). If you are planning to spend your entire trip in the French Quarter, your are close enough, but honestly there are others that are closer that you would be better off with. The restuarant in the hotel was overpriced (as most hotel restaurants are), but the food was decent enough. Overall a pretty good value... I have certainly stayed in better Mariotts, but for the value, I had an overall good experience.

Room Tip: If you get a room with a view at all, take the "City View" over the "River View"...
