“A Happy Experience”

I will begin by saying that David, Dale and Clara were great hosts. They told us to treat the house like it was our home. We chose the honeymoon suite which is by far the largest room they rent. It has its own kitchen area and an entrance through the main house or a private entrance through the courtyard, which we enjoyed. The bedroom contained a king size bed and we still had tons of space to move around. The tiled bathroom included both a walkin shower and a jacuzzi tub. Even through there were just two of us, this room also has a Murphy bed which could sleep two if needed. The entire room was very clean--and I am a very particular person. Most of the homes in this area are from 100-150 years old and have lots of character. We felt very safe walking in the daytime. We used a cab to get to the French Quarter at a cost of $8 including tip for two people. One of the features I liked best was being able to park my car about 20 feet from the front door in a very nice private parking lot--at no charge.Rates in New Orleans usually run $30-$40 per night to park a car.
We were extremely happy with our choice and are looking forward to staying again.

Room Tip: choose the Honeymoom suite for greater privacy and size

“Needs more attention”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 November 2011

This Inn is an ok place to stay, I might stay there again one day.
It would benefit greatly from more TLC and an increased presence and involvment of the owners.
And for crying out loud: replace those broken down great room furniture, they are fit for donation ....

“Very excellent!”

Where to begin !?

Auld Sweet Olive is a very comfortable, very laid-back yet professional establishment. I was going to take a week long vacation in Houston in July 2011, and due to the sudden death of a close cousin, I needed to change my location and dates to New Orleans (where I am from). I immediately thought about trying a different approach, looking at bed and breakfast style accommodations. In my good luck, I have a friend who knows Dale and David, the Sweet Olive owners. I was thoroughly delighted to see that they have a truly great deal when staying four nights: The 4th night is free! Obviously, this doesn't include major holidays. That is an amazing deal at any establishment, much less one as nice as this!

I stayed in the Palmetto Guest Room. Very well-appointed, and with a lot of storage and a truly awesome bathroom with excellent hand made soaps! The staff was courteous, professional, and around just enough to see to any needs. No need for meddling people in your personal business, UNLESS you engage in conversation with them. Clara was amazingly nice. She is a true New Orleanian. I can't even tell you how amazing the incredibly generous spread was for breakfast. Jams, breads, fresh fruit, berries, cream cheese, muffins, bagels, you name it. Extremely generous and ever-evolving. I was very pleased.

By the way, parking is extremely easy, as it is located across the street within a stones throw of the front door. Also, it is a secure lot off the street. Seriously, it can't get easier than that!

By the way, WiFi is free!

The house was very pretty and very well taken care of. I do not see the validity of some of the negative reviews that have been posted. Perhaps they were expecting the W Hotel or Intercontinental? Get real. This place is amazing.

I will absolutely stay here whenever I am in town. No doubt about it.

Michael D

Room Tip: Definitely eat breakfast! It's fantastic!

“Great way to experience New Orleans!”

Just recently had a delightful stay at the Auld Sweet Olive B&B; this was my second trip to NO and first ever stay at a B&B and I felt that New Orleans would be the perfect city to give it a try. The Auld Sweet Olive was as unique, charming, friendly and quirky as New Orleans and added quite a bit of flavor to our overall trip. The Auld Sweet Olive is set in the Marigny neighborhood and is about a 15 minute walk to the French Quarter. For those who don't mind not being right in the middle of the very touristy French Quarter, the Marigny area and Frenchman Street were a pleasant surprise and bonus that I completely overlooked on my first visit to New Orleans. Dave, Dale, and Clara were very attentive to be sure that everything was taken care of. An initial problem with the cleanliness of the bathroom was very quickly resolved (see review by TAB2TAB just before mine) and our rooms were more than adequate after that. The home itself is wonderfully unique and we had a great time exploring the decor and relaxing in the Banana room at the end of each day. Clara was an absolutely indispensable delight in staying at the Auld Sweet Olive; she is quintessentially New Orleans and her larger-than-life stories and charm were worth the price of admission alone. Dave and Dale were a pleasure to talk to and were a wealth of information about where to go and what to do while in New Orleans. The level of trust in opening their home to us was refreshing and a new experience for us - one that I would certainly like to experience again on our next stay to New Orleans. Thank you for the great memories!

Room Tip: Be sure to visit the website to select a room, each are unique.

“YES!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 November 2011

We stayed in Auld Sweet Olive last November 2011, 3 days in Plantation Room. The atmosphere is unique, everyday we found, among others, excellent homemade muffins for breakfast, the place is very near from French Quarter (10 minutes walk) and is located in a very quiet neighborhood. It was supposed we were in the more noisy room because we were just beside the kitchen, but it wasn't a problem at all (I think we were the first ones getting up everyday) and our time there was really nice. Thank you Dale and Dave. You have really a great place!!!! Next time in New Orleans, for sure we'll try to contact Sweet Olive.

Room Tip: Plantation Room is supposed to be the more noisy room because it is beside the kitchen, but, at leas...
