“Sort of Scary”

We wanted a B and B off the beaten path and wawy from the loud, dirty French Quarter so we tried this one. The site made it sound reputable since they own supposed hotels. We passed it 2 times on Prytannia. The hotel where you check in is in back of a house. We parked out car and had to walk down the street and around the corner to the Queen Mary. If you know anything about New Orleans, it's not that safe to walk anywhere. If I had not had a male companion, I would not have stayed. The house itself was pretty. We did have a spacious room..but..the toilet did not flush and flooded the bathroom. We didn't have a toilet the entire time, we reported it but nothing was done. It is very odd that they make you sign a waiver when you check in that says if you don't like the room there is NO REFUND!! I had never seen that before, NOW I KNOW WHY. The sheets were poor quality and were itchy. There was no blanket, only a bedspread, which I hesitate to use. The pillows were hard. The next day you could have continental breakfast across the street, but no one was there. It is a block from the trolley and St. Charles, which during parade time would be convenient. For the money I think you could find a more comforable and safe place. Also the people walked above us all night and car traffic is loud.

Room Tip: Ask for the large room on the first floor, although we heard the people above us all night.

First of all, I think this young lady has us confused with another hotel, as we do not have a “Queen Mary” hotel in our collection. There is however, a small Inn located at Prytania Street and St. Mary St., which is about 4 blocks from us. But if she is referring to us, I must refute her claims.

Check-in is not behind a house, but in the Main Lobby of the Prytania Park Hotel. There is an abandoned, boarded up house that sits adjacent to the Main Lobby, and maybe that is what she is referring to.

All web sites and confirmation letters from us directly, or every travel agency & marketing company we partner up with clearly state this, and give the address. It is around the corner, and for those who do not read the confirmation letters when they receive them, we have a sign on the Front Gate that clearly states it.

Secondly, we do not have any paperwork that states “ if you don't like the room there is NO REFUND!! “. A hotel in New Orleans could never stay in business with a waiver like that. I would like to see such paperwork, as it is hard for me to believe that exists. Our registration cards for all 3 of our hotels are identical and no where on it does it have this disclaimer.

Thirdly, we have 24/7 maintenance, and if a commode overflowed and was unable to be corrected, we would move the guest immediately to another room, and would offer some sort of compensation for their inconvenience. No such call came in or was logged into the Maintenance staff.

Our linens are of high quality but not the quality of a Ritz Carlton or a 5 star hotel, or even your own private home. Not only do all the beds have designer comforter sets, all rooms have down alternative comforters, and an extra fleece blanket for options to their own comfort level.

We offer Security from 6pm to 6am, 7 days a week that monitors all 3 of our hotels, corporate apartments, and 2 retail stores. But do note, this is an urban city area with mixed residential and commercial use. However, some guests who are not used to “big city” living and life are unnerved a bit, with the mixture of the neighborhood, but that is part of the charm of the Lower Garden District to which we reside in. Prytania Street is lined with Security lights from the local power company and all the individual housing security lights that each property has, it is fine to walk around our area at night. However, if a guest is not sure, all they have to do is call the Front Desk and we would be glad to have the Security staff, or any staff member walk over and assist them to the corner to catch the Streetcar.

“Quiet and very clean room”

At first, we were skeptical about the neighborhood as some surrounding houses were being renovated. However, we fell in love with the place after our first night. The neighborhood is safe to walk around, just a block from St. Charles street car line. Queen Anne is an absolutely beautiful house. A quiet and clean room was what we were looking for, and we got it. For $119 a night, we think this is the best deal. Staff was very friendly, plenty of parking. It was very convenient to have dinner in the upscale Garden District restaurants or to wander to to the French Quarter for fun and real NOLA culinary. We will return.

Room Tip: Staff forgot to pick up the dishes and a trash bag we put in the corner. No big deal. She still made...

THANK YOU for the kind words. We do appreciate you taking time to write a memo to future guests. The Queen Anne is a very special and unique property. The beauty of the architecture both in and outside is enough to fall in love with it.

I am sorry that we fell short in the “pick up” department. I will certainly pass this along to our Exex. Housekeeper as a note, so he can in turn, work with the housekeepers on being on the lookout for things like this. I am sure it was an oversight, but re-training is always a good idea.

Fondly,

“it's lovely but ........”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 October 2011

the hotel is lovely but it's a bit spaced. Basically, if you stay in the actual Queen Anne mansion it's gorgeous but you are on your own! The lobby is very Gone With the Wind but you have to check in at the Pyrittania Hotel and breakfast is in the hotel across the road. Basically the Queen Anne is just a resting spot. There's nobody onsite. However, it's beautiful. The rooms are clean, large and well equipped. The breakfast is OK but my husband grabbed 3 peices of fruit bread to toast for us both and was slight attacked for being greedy! We were told that the breakfast is complimentary and it was 2 peices each. It was very embarrassing and not needed. However, that's a small quibble. It's well appointed but you need to get your bearings. The French Quarter is around a 20 minute walk but much easier to get the tram from 1 block down and it's only $3 for a day ticket. BUT they have no change and will turn you away if you don't have the right money. Get off at Canal Street and you are right on the edge of the French Quarter. I loved loved loved New Orleans and the Queen Anne was part of that experience!!

I want to Thank the guest for their review, but would appreciate a moment to elaborate on a few points.

A). The Queen Anne Mansion was once a private home, and now, through a beautiful restoration, has 12 rooms. It is apart of a collection of (3) boutique hotels in one block. Now, understanding this, you should also know that in the Garden District of New Orleans, this is the standard for hotels. You won’t find many big box hotels, but beautifully restored Mansions and homes that were renovated into unique, quaint hotels. Proudly, We are one of them.

We are not a B&B where the mangers lives on site, and never claim to be one. It is a hotel, with the check in lobby a short 1 block down, and very accessible 24/7. All phones are connected to main lobby by switchboard by dialing “0”.

B). The breakfast room for the Queen Anne is in 2 areas, depending on various factors. Mostly, it is directly across the street at our property, The Prytania Oaks which was designed for this. The Queen Anne Mansion is not laid out for such. If not across the street, it is in the courtyard just off the main lobby where you check in.

C.) The breakfast attendant did not scold them or attack them. She has been praised many times on comment cards as to her caring ways. This was his 2nd pass at the breakfast service station to which he had full coverage the 1st pass through. She was trying to explain that it is a “get me going” breakfast, and that we have other guests who have not been down yet. She tried to suggest seeing they were still hungry, a full service breakfast restaurant 2 blocks down, but they did not want to have to pay for it since ours was complimentary.

D.) When guests check in and inquires about the Famous New Orleans StreetCar, we always tell them you need exact change as they do not give change. When you enter the streetcar, “tram”, it is clearly marked exact change required. This is standard to most trolley systems.

We will always break down larger bills for those who do not carry smaller ones for this reason, and we always have quarters to change out as well. The streetcar is $1.25/person, per ride or $3.00/day. Seniors over 65 ride for 40cents ea ride.

Perhaps this guest did not inquire, and therefore, probably did not know, even tho we have a large message board with this same information on it right at the front desk.
