Spent a friday and a saturday night there. Lobby was clean & quiet, desk staff prompt. From the car to the room in <10 minutes, and that counted the unloading of said car. PJ's was the coffee shop in the lobby, more on them later. Elevator matched lobby. I got off the elevator and i saw one broken light fixture in the hall. Carpet in the hall was badly stained, but no odd smells. Room was a inside room. Second floor, outside, were the only ones to get a balcony, every one else who had an outside room just had a window, we didn't even have that. There was a faux-window, though, with nice drapes (no stains on that) and glass blocks with a "night light" behind that. No peeling wallpaper or blind guy paint jobs. Some artwork on the wall, couple of big mirrors. My traveling companion took the one double bed and had no complaints of stains, smells, or bedbugs and, in fact, almost fell asleep in it in his clothes. I brought an air mattress to sleep on so i got a good look at the carpet while i inflated it. No stains or bugs there, though the paint on the bathroom door was chipped near the floor at the corner. Bathroom was clean and nice looking, no mold or mildew or odd smells. Towels and washcloths were fresh, soap, shampoo were ready, as was a hair dryer and a magnifying mirror on an arm. Ran the shower later that night, water was hot, clean, and high pressure. Low def TV, though we caught all the basic cable stuff. Lots of plugins, 2 behind the TV, two behind the desk, 2 more behind the entry door, 2 in the bathroom, and one in the lamp on the nightstand. Nightstand itself had an alarm clock and a safe, no extra charge for the safe. Three drawer bureau, one drawer on the desk, and a closet. Cel phone calls came and went loud and clear. Set up the laptop, tuned in the WiFi, and got about what i'd get at any other hotel WiFi. Watched a little TV, then hit a bar for a private party. Came back just after midnight. There was a sign posted at the front door that the door was locked after 11 PM and you needed your card key to get in. It was not locked and we just let ourselves in. I decided i wanted a candy bar and hit the vending machine just off the lobby, paid $1 and got something fresh. Upstairs (we were on 8) my partner decides he wants a soda. Twenty oz drink was $2 from the vending machine on 2 and just as fresh as the candy bar was. Turned the AC down a bit, Watched a little more TV then hit the sack (convention early the next day). No funny noises, no people stampeding up and down the hall, no loud music, none of that. Next morning i gave PJ's a shot for breakfast. One OJ, small cup of coffee, cinnamon roll, and a SEC biscuit set me back $10 but it was very convenient and tasty. Went back for same the next day. Maids arrived between 9:30 and 10, i left the maid sign on, came back to fresh towels, washcloths, and shampoo/soap. Sat night, on the way down to a party, we saw some teenagers in formal attire on one floor. Not sure what was going on there, but never heard a peep out of them. Left Sunday night. A little slow on bringing the car back, but i haven't had valets handle my car that often so i'm not sure what constitutes "slow" or "fast". Paid $74/night via hotwire, paid $64 same time last year for a double at the HOliday Inn Downtown via hotwire, too, and i felt the RSC was a good deal. Struck up a conversation with the head of maintenance, he said after Mardi Gras they are getting a multi-million dollar renovation, starting with NEW CARPET.
Room Tip: 2nd floor, outside, facing ST Charles. Coffee, donuts, New Orleans street cars from your balcony? Yo...
