“DON'T STAY IN FIRST ROOM”

This hotel has some advantages and disadvantages. It's an old house with about 10 guest rooms. If you are looking for "JUST A ROOM" away from all the tourist action without any luxuries then this is just the place for you. It's located at the very far end of Canal Street and right across the street from the trolly. You can be downtown to enjoy the scenery within about 5-10 minutes. I stayed in the first room which is located just off the front porch. BEWARE because you'll hear EVERYTHING from street traffic to other guests entering and exiting the hotel. The room is quite large and clean with a full or very small queen bed. There is a fireplace which doesn't appear to work as it's stuffed with a plant. If you want a luxury bathroom .. FORGET IT!! The bathroom is old with crack tiles on the wall and a sloped stand-up shower. There is also a very small closet INSIDE the bathroom. There is NO additional closet space; however, there is a very nice sized armoire in the bedroom. The real negative concerns with this hotel is that the power ONLY in our room went out TWICE. The first time it was out for about 12 hours. I placed a call from MY CELL PHONE to the manager since there is NO PHONE located in the room and NO STAFF available around the clock. The maintenance person appears to be inexperienced or simply didn't know what he was doing. I was very upset but wanted to enjoy the last night of my stay in New Orleans. The final straw was when we returned to the room to find the electricity out AGAIN. We immediately contacted the manager, who was fortunately on-site. Fortunately the lights were back on pretty quick this time. I don't know about the rest of the rooms but that room was NOT a great choice. Also BEWARE of the small hole in the floor in this room where you can see clearly into the basement of the house. I would rather have stayed at a cheap hotel which would have provided much better service!

“Great place to stay”

We recently stayed at La Maison Bleu during our trip to the Sugar Bowl and were quite pleased with our accomodations. Billy, the owner, is a long time New Orleans resident who gave us excellent travel advice on where to eat, visit and which neighborhoods to stay out of. He is warm and friendly and willing to help in any way possible. His knowledge of the city is invaluable to the traveler, especially one who is visiting for the first time.
The guest house is very cute and located right on Canal St. You only have to walk one block up to catch the streetcar, so it's very convenient if you are using the streetcar as your main mode of transportation. Our room (#10 Esplanade) was very clean and also had a daybed in it, which would be great for a family with one child or two small children. We had our own a/c unit and a private bath which is great. There wasn't a phone in our room, but I didn't miss that at all. There is so much to do in New Orleans that you don't need to spend time on the phone anyway. Breakfast is continental (small pastries, cereals, fruit & juice). Overall, this was a great place to stay for the value. Oh, the parakeets in the tree are really neat...you'll see what I mean if you visit! And don't forget to sit a while on the porch swing and watch the streetcar pass by. This was a great value!

The rooms were very spacious along with being cleaner than any hotel I've stayed in the area. The staff went above and beyond their duties to see to it that we were happy and taken care of. We will be definately staying there again.

“Can't get money back if there is a hurricane!!!!”

During the Hurricane Ivan, Jeanne, Karl evacuations, we were scheduled to check in 9/18/04. We called 9/11/04 to ask to cancel without penalties being NEW ORLEANS WAS EVACUATING. The management told us curtly the hotel was remaining open and we would be charged. It was taking evacuees up to 24 hours to cover a distance of 2 1/2 hours! As soon as we hung up the phone, the charges were being made to our account. What an inconsiderate, greedy person!!!! I will NEVER book there again!

“No complaints!”

Came upon this guesthouse through tripadvisor and wasn't disappointed.
Was a little concerned at first, the rates were too good to be true.
Mark is a perfect host and he upgraded us to a suite on the top floor.
It was by far the largest room you can get for $85.00 any where! We had a chance to check out all the rooms (everyone had left by sunday night). Even the cheapest rooms at $65.00 were a GREAT deal. I can not recommend this place higher. The air conditioner was ice cold, the rooms always clean, the hottest water i have ever seen, the tallest shower heads of any room (i am 6'1"), comfortable beds, free parking (sometimes a bit tight, get used to parallel parking) and quiet. The distance to the quarter is minimal, perhaps 10 minutes by car. The parking costs in the quarter is the only down side, but this place is by far the best value you could ever find on here. The furnishings of the rooms were very impressive and did not repeat each theme.
