“Great experience”

We just came home from a great stay at the Rathbone. We stayed in the main house with the pool and dining area. We will be returning. The house itself has a lot of character. It is a little rough around the edges but it is clean and comfortable. By rough around the edges, I mean it could use a little carpentry help here and there. We did not mind this aspect at all though. I would recommend it to people who enjoy character and being in a real neighborhood (Treme) where people live and work. If you are high maintenence and are looking for a cookie cutter room, you should stay elsewhere. We had the smallest room in the place and were happy for our four nights. The pool/jucuzzi/garden area is very relaxing and we took full advantage of that. The music clubs on Frenchmen Street are a short walk or ride away (we brought our bikes). The French Quarter, Marigny, Bywater and Mid-City neighborhoods are all within easy reach. We rode our bikes to all of these places. Pat, the manager, cooked delicious breakfasts for us every morning we were there (breakfast casserole, blueberry pancakes, grits and greens..yum). I think you would be hard pressed to find a place that offers all of this for such a low price. Pat and the staff are great hosts and will make you feel right at home. We really appreciated them. Don't forget to leave housekeeping a nice tip. They do a very good job. We look forward to returning. Patrick and Beth, Carbondale, IL

Room Tip: I would recommend a room in the main house for the proximity to the pool and breakfast area. I hear...

“Our Home Away from Home”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2012

I am in love with the city of New Orleans and have been staying all over town to find a hotel to meet my needs. After i stayed at Rathbone Mansions, I think I may have finally found one!! We have stayed there twice in the last three months and have a room booked for Mardi Gras and Jazz Fest. Staying on Esplanade works very well for the things I like to experience while in New Orleans. We always frequent Frenchmen St, which is the home of the best musical talent in the city. Staying here, it is a comfortable walking distance, with a really popular restaurant, Port of Call, 4 blocks away, and Buffa's, which is a restaurant/ music club that serves food 24 hours that is only a block or two away! in this location, you are technically not in the quarter- but you can easily walk there, you are on the very perimeter or you can get a very cheap cab ride to get you where you need to go. The little pool and outdoor area looks like a great gathering spot for the guests, as the manager assured us we will certainly enjoy in the warmer months. The dining area was very clean and the walls were filled with some very interesting works of art. I felt our room was very suitably clean and we were very comfortable staying in both of the buildings. It really was a great experience and we are already referring to it as our home away from home. Very friendly customer service. We were able to park in their lot the first trip, and street parking was not a problem, our second visit. Overall, Rathbone Mansions is a great choice and a good value.

Room Tip: I preferred the main house location, with the dining room, but our other room was very nice, and it...

“Loved it”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2012

We originally planned on spending three nights, but loved it so much ended up staying ten nights. The room was nicely appointed with a huge four poster king sized bed, plus fridge and small microwave. It's a beautiful old mansion, I just loved the quirkiness of the old building. We never had an issue parking the car. The mansion is well within walking distance to the French Quarter. Breakfast is included and held in a common area, those ladies know how to cook! Everything was delicious, and the coffee was exceptional. All the staff were super friendly and fun to be around. Pat the manager is just awesome, very efficient, extremely helpful and constantly going out of her way to ensure the guests are taken care of. Pat gave us great day trip ideas, and booked a airboat trip for us (which was great). We will definatley be making a return trip.

Room Tip: If you need anything just ask Pat, and it will be taken care of right away.

“Very Nice Bed and Breakfast”

We came to town for the sugar bowl and enjoyed our time at the Rathbone Mansions. We were concerned about the limited parking but parking on the street was no problem. The room was spacious and clean. The hot tub was great. We enjoyed breakfast, plenty to choose from and there is a daily hot treat. I even tried the grits and greens and have to admit they were really good! Pat the General Manager is awesome and a good cook. She helped us with cabs and general information. We liked the location it was easy to get to the superdome and to site see in the French Quarters but it was far enough away to relax. The neighborhood was quite and we felt safe. We loved the house cats that would be out and about if you visited the Main Mansion after breakfast. It made the living room area feel homey. Would recommend this location for a trip to New Orleans and we intend to visit again soon.

“Very nice B & B”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 January 2012

I had a certain trepidation about our upcoming trip to New Orleans after reading some of the reviews of the Rathbone Mansions. Fortunately, everything turned out fine. The room was spacious, and we were actually upgraded to a two room with refrigerator, microwave and kitchenette area. I was worried about parking, especially during the Sugarbowl, but we never had a problem finding parking in the street. We actually preferred that to the rather small parking lot connected to the main mansion. Breakfast was very nice (spinach casserole was delicious!); staff were friendly, welcoming and helpful; the property was tastefully decorated. It's located quite close to the French Quarter and we easily walked to and from the Superdome for the Sugarbowl game. We booked the room on bookit.com and got an excellent rate, especially compared to anything else near the French Quarter.
