We stayed at Kate and Dave's for one of the two nights we had originally planned. The house is a splendid place in an old NO neighborhood near the French Quarter, filled with the owners' art, beads, antique furniture and cats. The several resident cats are calm and friendly and do not go in the guest rooms (I have moderate cat allergies and had no trouble).
Parking is on the narrow street. Owners advised us to leave nothing visible in the car. We were told that walking after dark might not be prudent and taxis are safer. Our hosts were friendly and informative and made us feel welcome.
Our upstairs room was well furnished and equipped, with a separate sitting room, a balcony porch overlooking the rear yard/garden, books and maps of local info and a small fridge full of water and drinks. It was very quiet, generally, which made the trains blowing their horns repeatedly through the early morning hours all the more startling. The tracks are only a block away, parrallel to St. Ferdinand Street, according to a map we saw later.
We didn't get as much sleep as we would have liked. We thought the trains might not bother people more used to urban noise levels.
We did not have breakfast there, as we were visiting family nearby, so can't comment.
