“Words don't express how horrid”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 January 2011

We were with a large group of folks who were in New Orleans for the Sugar Bowl. Before we arrived, we were told one of the elevators was out so we'd all have to be patient when going to our rooms. We were assured the second elevator would be fixed by the following day. Need I say that this never happened and in reading past reviews I find out that for at least 3 years they have had difficulty with elevators.

The lobby was fairly nice, so who would suspect that when you exited the elevator on your floor you would be hit with a horrible moldy stench that did not abate when you went into your room, in fact, it only exacerbated over time and its a non-smoking hotel. Cigarette smoke would have been better.

We had a wonderful dinner at Shula's on Canal Street, then went back to our stinky rooms. By that time I was so tired, I didn't notice much, but when I woke up in the morning I had no problems noticing that I had NO hot water for my bath. I was kind of stiff from the bus ride and was looking forward to a hot bath. That was just not going to happen. Oh, did I mention that there was a bathtub ring? The water was initially lukewarm and went quickly to cold. When I told the manager that I had no hot water, she said..."Ma'am you are the only one complaining, we don't know why that happened." Unfortunately for her, I found out that EVERYONE had the same problem and nearly everyone was complaining.

There's not enough room to continue with all the things about this hotel that was wrong. Enough to say...don't stay here.

“Good value (you get what you pay for), but average location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 January 2011

The room and bathroom were really spacious and clean but the corridors had a slightly musty smell. There was no WiFi access in the room (WiFi only available in the lobby), but if you had a LAN cable you could access the internet in your room. The hotel was about a 15-20 minute drive to the French Quarter and there was nowhere to eat near the hotel. On the plus side, we got a really good deal on the accommodation, the bed was very comfortable and the hotel had a guest laundry and business centre.

“Go Somewhere Else”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 August 2010 via mobile

My family of five (my wife and i, and three kids ages 9, 6 and 1) checked in at 7pm on a Friday night. We got a double planning on my two sons sharing a bed and our one year old sleeping with us. We went to our room (room 309), used the restroom and washed our faces, and left for dinner.
When we returned three hours later not only was the elevators now out of order, but our key cards not work, and someone else had been put in the room. When we complained, the lady at the desk blamed it on the person working the shift before her even though we and the one guy in the room checked in with her. She then kept that man in that room and then told us that at no extra charge she'd upgrade us to a better room.
We received our keys now to room 306. It shocked us when we got to this room to discover that this upgraded room was not only slightly smaller, but also contained only one bed. Five people in one bed?
The next morning, when we were finally able to talk to a manager and ask for our money back, we were told, "sorry there is nothing we can do. But we will give you breakfast on us," and they pointed to the free continental beakfast bar.
By the way their continental breakfast was cheap and stale.

“My third stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 May 2010

I have stayed at this hotel on three different occasions and will definitely stay there again. The staff has always been friendly and helpful. The location of the hotel is also less than 20 mins away from Canal

Make sure that you do not use a gps for the locator to the hotel, call the hotel or ask one of the rental car agencies at the airport for directions.

“stay somewhere else”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 April 2010

the breakfast is limited

the hallways smell really really bad, there were about 15 of us staying at the avalon 7 moved after the first few days.

We all agreed that it smelled like a bad boys locker room.

The desk clerk said you can walk outside at night but you won't come back. East side business has all moved out or never came back. Very scary area for sure at night.

No food avail. after 6 on sunday nights no food at all on monday, very limited food with-in walking distance. Popeyes chicken and mc D's.
