“Amazing B&B”

This was my first trip to New Orleans and my first time at a B&B. Sully Mansion set the bar. Guy, Nancy and Gracie are amazing hosts. They made me feel at home and extremely comfortable. I have already recommended it to numerous friends and family if they visit the area. Many thanks to them for making my trip a memorable one.

“I would rate this 50/50”

Some features about the Sully B&B were great, like the location and the size of the inn. They have a great location in the Garden District however to see much else of New Orleans you must use public transportation or a car. They have a lovely front porch, ideal for conversation or a few quiet moments.

The Esplanade room was well sized and quaint, however there were many items that need attention from the difficult door handle/lock to the fact that windows in the bathroom do not open and there was no exhaust fan. The room looked tired, and it was evident that it had not been dusted or freshened up prior to our arrival. We stayed 4 nights and not once were our sheets changed. By the way, these sheets were so thin that they should have been tossed out long ago!

Our hosts, Guy and Nancy, while cordial were not warm and welcoming. It's just a personality thing. They were knowledgeable about the area.

The breakfasts were adequate on the weekend, but lacking during the week when they consisted mostly of juice and muffins or King Cake, something I would expect from a Comfort Inn.

“lovely oasis from the bustle of the French Quarter”

I booked the smallest room, The Desire, because it was the only one available, but it turned out to be wonderful for a single person (not recommended for a couple -- bed is too small unless you're small people!) -- a nice cozy oasis after trekking around the busier sections of NOLA during the day. The Garden District is simply gorgeous and Nancy and Guy were very hospitable and helpful. Breakfast was very nice; would have liked wine&cheese around 4-5, but considering how much I was enjoying New Orleans cuisine in general, perhaps it's all for the best that more calories weren't available. :) Gracie the dog was all sweetness. The house is beautiful with paintings from local artists on the walls. I would go back there to stay again.

“Wonderful b&b!!!!!”

The location and beauty of this bed and breakfast was superior! The inn keepers were extremely informative and helpful with suggestions of sites in the city. We are very familiar with new Orleans and they still gave us new info, which we followed and loved! Their breakfast on Saturday morning was scrumptious and the room was very nice --- as was the front porch for relaxing at the end of our day.
We would highly recommend staying here.

Room Tip: Loved our room called the bourbon room. Very spacious and bed great!

“Unpleasant Hosts, Great Location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2012

The two of us spent the weekend at the Sully Mansion over a holiday weekend. To sum up our experience, we spent several lovely days strolling the Garden District, ate wonderful meals and enjoyed romantic evenings in the city.. Then returned back to the Sully Mansion (conveniently located in the Garden District, a short walk from the streetcar) for a moderately clean room for a comfortable night's sleep. Mornings were somewhat tense as the hosts are less than friendly individuals. Specifically, Nancy has rather insensitive and arrogant remarks to share across the breakfast table. We found this somewhat humorous (or at least we tried!) after the second morning, but this did take some getting used to. If you're "in it" for the city and the great location, certainly consider the Sully Mansion. However, if you're more interested in the B&B experience, consider staying somewhere with positive host reviews. Breakfast was predominately carbohydrates.

We are always concerned when guest feel their experience was less than what they expected, especially if their discontent has to do with their interaction with us as owners. Finding remarks insensitive causes us great concern. Because we are a small inn we are usually able to guess who the guests are that write the review. This review has us stumped especially as it was posted the same time as another reviewer whose experience of their interaction with us as owners and other guests appears to be more the norm, i.e. one of enjoyment. If offense was taken from any conversation we are so deeply sorry. Interactions are subjective but menus are not. Every day we have a large selection of baked goods, various proteins as well as hot gourmet entrees, fruit and yogurt. The sections are there for the guest to make, some load up on carbs and some do not but there is never an issue of a lack of options.
