I really enjoyed my 5 day stay at the Avenue Plaza (Dec 19-24th) in a completely upgraded one bedroom condo. Bathroom was small but otherwise great. Loved the overhead rain shower. FYI: It will tilt to any position you prefer, thus you can use without getting your hair wet (there is a handheld blow dryer in the bottom drawer of cabinet, if needed).
The staff was very pleasant, helpful and knowledgeable about area. Since I forgot my laptop charger, I used their convenient business center. Because they have 3 computer stations, I seldom had to wait or return to use one.
Location good, especially if you'd like to add a work-out to your visit, without having to use a treadmill. Using a city map & directions, given to me by the concierge, I was able to walk downtown and to the waterfront (abt 25 minute walk). I did use the trolley once, because it was late at night. Although the trolley is quite antiquated, it conveniently stops right in front of the hotel. Cost $1.25 plus $.25 for transfer. Caution, must have exact change-but does take dollar bills.St Charles Street is fairly well lit at night and not a lot of foot traffic, so I felt comfortable walking alone to nearby restaurants in the early evening. FYI: Walgreens and Office Depot only a few blocks away.
The only somewhat con I had, was parking. However, paid parking is quite common. I was fortunately able to find free parking on the adjacent side street, which was more convenient for me than the current daily $22 hotel parking fee.
No maid service, but wasn't it included in my vacation plan, so not expected and not an issue for me.
Unfortunately I was only able to stay a few days, thus couldn't explore the city as much as I'd like. Therefore, I plan to return with a friend sometime next year, and will definitely plan to stay here again.
Room Tip: My one bedroom corner unit was very quite.
